An evening of poetry, resistance, memory and international solidarity with the people of Palestine. At a time when genocide, displacement and censorship attempt to silence an entire people, poetry remains a living force of resistance. “Free Words” brings together poetry, oral history and visual material from Gaza, creating a collective space where language becomes testimony, mourning, revolt and hope.

As Gaza endures its darkest chapter—where children die from starvation while the world debates politics—the voices of Palestinian writers and poets carry an unbearable weight. These are not distant literary figures crafting abstract art, but witnesses documenting genocide in real time, their words emerging from beneath bombardment, from hospitals under siege, from refugee camps where entire families have been erased.

“Free Words: A Poet from Gaza,” directed by Abdullah Harun İlhan, takes on profound urgency. The documentary follows Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha, whose voice emerges from the epicenter of what international legal experts increasingly recognize as genocide. Through intimate interviews and readings of Mosab’s work, İlhan’s documentary reveals what it means to bear witness when survival itself becomes uncertain. This is not poetry emerging from general hardship, but testimony from within an active campaign of extermination where Palestinian life is treated as expendable.

Mosab Abu Toha is a Palestinian poet, writer and educator born in the Al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza in 1992. Growing up under occupation and repeated wars, his life and work have been deeply shaped by exile, memory, destruction and the daily struggle of Palestinian existence. In 2017 he founded the Edward Said Library, Gaza’s first English-language public library, creating an important cultural space for young readers and writers in Gaza.

His first poetry collection, Things You May Find Hidden in My Ear (2022), received international acclaim, winning the Palestine Book Award and the American Book Award. His writings combine personal testimony with poetic language, documenting life, loss and survival in Gaza.

After surviving the war on Gaza and being detained by the Israeli army while attempting to flee with his family in 2023, Abu Toha continued to write and speak internationally about the Palestinian experience. In 2025 he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for his essays in The New Yorker, recognized for portraying “the physical and emotional carnage in Gaza” with “the intimacy of memoir.”

When Mosab was detained by Israeli forces, the international literary community’s response underscored a crucial truth: Palestinian voices matter precisely because their silencing is systematic, deliberate, and part of a broader project of cultural destruction.

Στη συλλογή «Μικροκάμερα σε Καλειδοσκόπιο», καταγράφονται ποιητικές λήψεις από τόπους και στιγμές που λειτουργούν ως περάσματα: το Βαρανάσι, οι καταρράκτες του Αλμασέντας, παλιά σκοτεινά μπαρ, μαγικά και εξωτικά τοπία, σκηνικά όπου το πραγματικό συναντά το οριακό. Τα ποιήματα συντίθενται σαν εναλλασσόμενες εικόνες, όπου η εμπειρία διαθλάται και μεταμορφώνεται διαρκώς σε μια περιπέτεια της συνείδησης.

Η  ποίηση του Bill Hunchback αποτελεί ένα ταξίδι στη φωτεινή πλευρά της ζωής, όχι ως άρνηση του σκοταδιού, αλλά ως συνειδητή επιλογή μέσα από αυτό. Τα ποιήματα κινούνται ανάμεσα στη μελαγχολία, τη σιωπή και τις εσωτερικές ρωγμές, για να καταλήξουν σε στιγμές διαύγειας, αποδοχής και ελπίδας. Με λόγο απλό και ειλικρινή, η συλλογή αποτυπώνει την ανθρώπινη εμπειρία όπως πραγματικά είναι: εύθραυστη, αντιφατική, αλλά βαθιά φωτεινή , ακόμη και στις πιο σκοτεινές της εκφάνσεις. Πρόκειται για μια ποιητική διαδρομή που δεν υπόσχεται απαντήσεις. Η γραφή αποφεύγει στρατηγικά τον ακαδημαϊκό τόνο και προκρίνει μια αίσθηση συνωμοτικής συμμετοχής: ο αναγνώστης έτσι δεν καθοδηγείται, αλλά προσκαλείται να σταθεί δίπλα στο βλέμμα που παρατηρεί. Μέσα από έναν ζωντανό, άμεσο λόγο, έννοιες φθαρμένες από τη χρήση —όπως η αγάπη, ο έρωτας, η ξεγνοιασιά, η περιπλάνηση, η εκστατική ενατένιση της ζωής, το βίωμα της ελευθερίας— προσεγγίζονται χωρίς ρητορική αλλά ως βιώματα που επιμένουν.

Η «Μικροκάμερα σε Καλειδοσκόπιο» προτείνει ένα ποιητικό ταξίδι χαμηλής έντασης αλλά υψηλής εγρήγορσης, όπου ακόμη και οι πιο σκοτεινές αποχρώσεις της σύγχρονης ζωής αφήνουν χώρο για διαύγεια και υπέρβαση.

Ο Bill Hunchback, γνωστός εδώ και δεκαετίες στην underground Αθηναϊκή σκηνή ως εκδότης fanzine (Bside, Το Ανάποδο κ.α.), διοργανωτής ποιητικών συναντήσεων και μέλος ψυχεδελικών συγκροτημάτων (The Absorbus Machine, The Electric Sutras) κυκλοφορεί τον Μάιο του 2026 την πρώτη του ποιητική συλλογή.

Η βασική δομή μιας αναρχικής ομοσπονδιακής κοινωνίας θα ξεκινούσε από την αρχή ότι ο συντονισμός πρέπει να αναδύεται από τα κάτω, από το σημείο όπου οι άνθρωποι πράγματι ζουν και εργάζονται — και όχι να επιβάλλεται από ένα απόμακρο κέντρο εξουσίας.

Τοπικές συνελεύσεις, εργατικά συμβούλια, ενώσεις κατοίκων, συνεταιρισμοί, δίκτυα αλληλοβοήθειας και εθελοντικές οργανώσεις θα αποτελούν τα ζωντανά κύτταρα της κοινωνίας. Δεν θα είναι συμβολικά φόρουμ χωρίς πραγματική εξουσία· θα είναι οι τόποι όπου λαμβάνονται αποφάσεις, κατανέμονται οι πόροι, επιλύονται οι διαφορές και συζητούνται οι προτεραιότητες.

Ευρύτεροι βαθμοί συντονισμού — περιφερειακοί, διαπεριφερειακοί, ακόμα και διεθνείς — θα εξακολουθούν να υπάρχουν, αλλά θα λειτουργούν ως ομοσπονδίες αυτών των σωμάτων, οικοδομημένες μέσω ανάθεσης ευθυνών από τις ανάλογες ενώσεις / κοινότητες και όχι ως μηχανισμοί διακυβέρνησης από ψηλά. Οι εντολοδόχοι θα φέρουν συγκεκριμένες εντολές, θα είναι ανακλητοί, και θα λειτουργούν ως αγγελιαφόροι και συντονιστές — και όχι ως πολιτική τάξη εξουσιαστών.

Τεχνικά, μια τέτοια κοινωνία θα απαιτεί μια πολύ πιο προηγμένη και ρητή υποδομή δημοκρατικού συντονισμού από ό,τι είχαν στη διάθεσή τους τα περισσότερα αναρχικά κινήματα του εικοστού αιώνα. Αυτή είναι μία από τις κεντρικές πραγματικότητες που πολλοί εξακολουθούν να αγνοούν. Τα σύγχρονα συστήματα επικοινωνίας, οι κατανεμημένες βάσεις δεδομένων, η κρυπτογραφική επαλήθευση, τα εργαλεία ανοιχτού λογισμικού και τα διαφανή δημόσια μητρώα καθιστούν πολύ πιο εφικτό τον συντονισμό σύνθετων κοινωνιών χωρίς κρατική γραφειοκρατία που εδράζεται πάνω από όλους.

Μια αναρχική ομοσπονδία δεν θα σημαίνει ότι κάθε άτομο ψηφίζει για κάθε ασήμαντο ζήτημα κάθε μέρα — αυτό θα ήταν παράλογο. Θα σημαίνει σαφείς βαθμίδες λήψης αποφάσεων, με τα περισσότερα ζητήματα να αντιμετωπίζονται τοπικά και κατά κλάδους, και μόνο τα πραγματικά μεγάλης κλίμακας ζητήματα να διοχετεύονται προς τα πάνω μέσω ομοσπονδιακών δομών. Η ενέργεια, οι μεταφορές, οι αλυσίδες εφοδιασμού, ο οικολογικός προγραμματισμός, η κοινωνική φροντίδα και η υγειονομική περίθαλψη, οι στόχοι παραγωγής και ο συντονισμός έκτακτης ανάγκης θα μπορούν να αποτελούν ανοιχτά δημόσια ζητήματα μέσω κοινών δικτύων. Με αυτό τον τρόπο η εξουσία — ή η άσκηση της εξουσίας — καθίσταται πολύ πιο ορατή, δεν θα αποκρύπτεται. Ο σκοπός δεν είναι να καταργηθεί η οργάνωση· είναι να καταργηθούν οι τρόποι οργάνωσης που δεν είναι υπόλογες στην κοινωνία.

Κοινωνικά, από πολλές απόψεις, η καθημερινή ζωή θα είναι πιο συμμετοχική, πιο αμοιβαία, και ίσως πιο απαιτητική σε σχέση με αυτό που συνηθίζουν οι άνθρωποι που γαλουχήθηκαν με την παθητική φιλελεύθερη ταυτότητα του πολίτη. Οι άνθρωποι θα αναμένεται να συμμετέχουν ουσιαστικά στην κοινοτική ζωή — όχι ως αμισθί μαρτύριο, αλλά επειδή η κοινωνία δεν θα είναι πλέον οργανωμένη γύρω από το θέαμα και την ανάθεση της εξουσίας προς τα πάνω.

Πολλά από αυτά που σήμερα διαχειρίζεται ο καταναγκασμός της αγοράς ή η γραφειοκρατική βία θα λειτουργούσαν μέσω κανόνων αμοιβαίας υποχρέωσης, προσωπικής και συλλογικής ευθύνης ως αποτέλεσμα διαβούλευσης, διαπραγμάτευσης και κοινοτικής προσδοκίας. Η εργασία της φροντίδας θα αναγνωρίζεται ως κεντρική για την κοινωνία — και όχι ως αόρατη, απλήρωτη, υποστηρικτική και αναπαραγωγική εργασία. Η εκπαίδευση θα αφορά πολύ λιγότερο την παραγωγή υπάκουης εργατικής δύναμης για τους εργοδότες, και θα εστιάζει πολύ περισσότερο στην καλλιέργεια τεχνικά ικανών, κοινωνικά συνειδητοποιημένων, αυτό-κυβερνώμενων ανθρώπων. Ο μέσος άνθρωπος θα χρειάζεται υψηλότερο επίπεδο πολιτικής παιδείας — διότι η ελευθερία σε κλίμακα απαιτεί γνώσεις και ικανότητα, όχι μόνο συναίσθημα.

Οικονομικά, μια αναρχική ομοσπονδιακή κοινωνία θα είναι κατά πάσα πιθανότητα πλουραλιστική στη μορφή, αλλά ενοποιημένη από προκαθορισμένα όρια. Φυσικοί πόροι, υποδομές και οι βασικές συνθήκες της συλλογικής ζωής θα πρέπει να κατέχονται από κοινού ή να τελούν υπό ισχυρή κοινοτική επιμέλεια — διότι το να επιτραπεί σε αυτά να γίνουν ιδιωτικά κέντρα εξουσίας θα αναδημιουργούσε απλώς την ταξική κυριαρχία υπό άλλο ένδυμα. Πέρα από αυτό, η παραγωγή θα μπορούσε να οργανωθεί μέσω συνεταιρισμών, δημοτικών ενώσεων, επαγγελματικών ομοσπονδιών και κατανεμημένων δικτύων παραγωγής.

Το καθοριστικό ερώτημα θα ήταν εάν η παραγωγική δραστηριότητα παραμένει κοινωνικά υπόλογη. Στην πράξη, αυτό σημαίνει χώρους εργασίας διοικούμενους από εργάτες και κοινότητες, διαφανείς προμήθειες, ανοιχτά πρότυπα, διαλειτουργικά συστήματα και εργαλεία σχεδιασμού που επιτρέπουν τον συντονισμό χωρίς να απαιτείται κεντρικό κρατικό υπουργείο που τα υπαγορεύει όλα από ψηλά. Σε μια τεχνολογικά προηγμένη κοινωνία, αυτό θα μπορούσε να γίνει πολύ πιο δυναμικό από όσο επιτρέπουν οι παλιές αντιπαραθέσεις μεταξύ αγοράς και κεντρικού σχεδιασμού. Το πραγματικό ζήτημα είναι εάν ο συντονισμός εξυπηρετεί τη συλλογική ανάγκη — ή εάν εξυπηρετεί τη συσσώρευση και την κυριαρχία.

Πολιτιστικά, μια αναρχική ομοσπονδιακή κοινωνία θα πρέπει να παράγει έναν διαφορετικό τύπο ανθρώπου από αυτόν που παράγουν σήμερα ο καπιταλισμός και το κράτος. Σήμερα οι άνθρωποι εκπαιδεύονται στην ανταγωνιστική απομόνωση και τον πολιτικό κυνισμό και μαθαίνουν να ζουν εξαρτημένοι από συστήματα που δεν ελέγχουν. Μια ελεύθερη ομοσπονδία θα χρειαζόταν μια κουλτούρα αυτοπεποίθησης, σοβαρότητας και αμοιβαίου σεβασμού. Αυτό δεν σημαίνει ηθική τελειότητα — οι άνθρωποι θα εξακολουθούν να είναι ατελείς, αντιφατικοί, φιλόδοξοι και δύσκολοι. Αυτό που αλλάζει είναι η περιβάλλουσα δομή που διαμορφώνει αυτά τα χαρακτηριστικά. Το κύρος ιδανικά θα μετατοπιζόταν από τον πλούτο, τη διοίκηση και το θέαμα — προς την συνεισφορά, την δεξιοτεχνία, την αξιοπιστία, τη φαντασία και την κοινωνική εμπιστοσύνη. Η τέχνη, η επιστήμη, η μηχανική και η φιλοσοφία θα αναλάμβαναν πιθανότατα έναν πιο κοινό και δημόσιο ρόλο — διότι δεν θα υποτάσσονταν πλέον τόσο στενά στη στρατηγική του κράτους ή στο ιδιωτικό κέρδος.

Μια τέτοια κοινωνία θα χρειαζόταν τον πολιτισμό να επιτελεί πραγματικό έργο· θα χρειαζόταν ιστορίες, τελετουργίες, παιδεία και σύμβολα που διδάσκουν στους ανθρώπους πώς να ζουν ως ελεύθεροι και ίσοι σε έναν σύνθετο κόσμο.

Ο λόγος που αυτό το όραμα έχει σημασία είναι ότι πολύ μεγάλο μέρος της αριστεράς εξακολουθεί να μιλά σαν ο ορίζοντας της πολιτικής να είναι είτε η μεταρρύθμιση του διοικητικού κράτους είτε η κατάληψή του. Αυτό αφήνει τη φαντασία παγιδευμένη μέσα στην αρχιτεκτονική της κυριαρχίας. Μια αναρχική ομοσπονδία προσφέρει μια πιο άμεση απάντηση, γιατί λέει ότι, η κοινωνία μπορεί να είναι εξαιρετικά οργανωμένη χωρίς να καταστεί αυταρχική, τεχνολογικά εξελιγμένη χωρίς συγκεντρωτισμό, και κοινωνικά συνεκτική χωρίς να απαιτείται η ύπαρξη μιας κυρίαρχης τάξης.

Η πρόκληση δεν είναι το αν μπορεί να φανταστεί κανείς μια τέτοια κοινωνία — φυσικά μπορεί να την φανταστεί ο κάθε άνθρωπος. Η πρόκληση είναι η οικοδόμηση των θεσμών, των συνηθειών και των τεχνικών συστημάτων που την καθιστούν υλικά αξιόπιστη. Εκεί πρέπει τώρα ο Αναρχισμός να γίνει πιο συγκεκριμένος, λιγότερο καθαρά αντιπολιτευόμενος, και ικανότερος να παρουσιάσει τον εαυτό του ως ένα πραγματικό πολιτισμικό σχέδιο.

Its basic structure would begin from the principle that coordination should arise from below, from people where they actually live and work, rather than being imposed from a distant centre. Local assemblies, workplace councils, tenant unions, cooperatives, care networks, and voluntary associations would form the living substance of society. These would not be symbolic forums with no real power, they would be the places where decisions are made, resources are allocated, disputes are addressed, and priorities are debated.

Wider levels of coordination, regional, interregional, even international, would still exist, but they would exist as federations of these bodies, built through delegation rather than rule. Delegates would carry specific mandates, remain recallable, and function as messengers and coordinators rather than a political class.

Technically, such a society would depend on a much more advanced and explicit infrastructure of democratic coordination than anything most twentieth century anarchist movements had access to. That is one of the central facts many people still fail to grasp. Modern communications systems, distributed databases, cryptographic verification, open accounting tools, and transparent public ledgers make it far more plausible to coordinate complex societies without a state bureaucracy standing above everyone.

An anarchist federation would not mean every person voting on every trivial matter every day, that would be absurd. It would mean clear layers of decision making, with most matters handled locally, and only genuinely large scale questions routed upward through federated structures. Energy use, transport, supply chains, ecological planning, healthcare capacity, production targets, and emergency coordination could all be made publicly legible through shared systems. Power, or the exercise of power would be made more visible, not less. The point is not to abolish organisation, it is to abolish unaccountable organisation.

Socially, daily life would likely feel more participatory, more reciprocal, and probably more demanding in some ways than people raised under passive liberal citizenship are used to. People would be expected to take some meaningful part in communal life, not as unpaid martyrdom, but because society would no longer be arranged around spectatorship and delegation upward. Much of what is now handled through market coercion or bureaucratic compulsion would instead be handled through norms of mutual obligation, negotiated responsibility, and communal expectation. Care work would be recognised as socially central rather than treated as invisible background labour. Education would be less about producing obedient labour for employers, and more about cultivating technically capable, socially conscious, self governing human beings. The average person would need a higher level of civic literacy, because freedom at scale requires competence, not just sentiment.

Economically, an anarchist federation society would most likely be plural in form but unified by certain boundaries. Natural resources, infrastructure, and the basic conditions of collective life would need to be held in common or under strong communal stewardship, because allowing these to become private power centres would simply recreate class rule in another costume. Beyond that, production could be organised through cooperatives, municipal associations, trade federations, and distributed manufacturing networks. The decisive question would be whether productive activity remains socially accountable. In practical terms that means workplaces governed by workers and communities, transparent procurement, open standards, interoperable systems, and planning tools that allow coordination without requiring a central state ministry dictating everything from above. In a technologically advanced society this could become far more dynamic than old arguments between market and plan usually allow. The real issue is whether coordination serves collective need, or whether it serves accumulation and domination.

Culturally, an anarchist federation would have to produce a different type of person from the one capitalism and the state currently produce. Today people are trained into competitive isolation, political cynicism, and learned dependence on systems they do not control. A free federation would need a culture of confidence, seriousness, and mutual respect. That does not mean moral perfection, human beings would still be flawed, contradictory, ambitious, and difficult. What changes is the surrounding structure that shapes those traits. Prestige would ideally shift away from wealth, command, and spectacle, and toward contribution, skill, reliability, imagination, and public trust. Art, science, engineering, and philosophy would likely take on a more common and public role, because they would no longer be so tightly subordinated to state strategy or private profit. A society like this would need culture to do real work, it would need stories, rituals, education, and symbols that teach people how to live as free equals in a complex world.

The reason this vision matters is because too much of the left still speaks as though the horizon of politics is either reforming the administrative state or capturing it. That leaves the imagination trapped inside the architecture of domination. An anarchist federation offers a more direct answer, it says society can be highly organised without becoming authoritarian, technically sophisticated without becoming centralised, and socially coherent without requiring a ruling class.

The challenge is not whether such a society can be imagined, it already can. The challenge is building the institutions, habits, and technical systems that make it materially credible. That is where anarchism now has to become more concrete, less purely oppositional, and more capable of presenting itself as a real civilisational design.

Η ιστορία των εξεγέρσεων είναι ένας υπόγειος ποταμός: από τις πρώτες εξεγέρσεις των καταπιεσμένων μέχρι τα σύγχρονα κινήματα, από τη μουσική μέχρι τους δρόμους, από τη μνήμη μέχρι το σώμα. Το βιβλίο του Θανάση Μήνα BLACK POWER ξεδιπλώνει τη συνέχεια των αντιστάσεων της Μαύρης Υπερηφάνειας, τις αόρατες συνδέσεις ανάμεσα σε κοινότητες, κουλτούρες και επιθυμίες ελευθερίας. Μας θυμίζει ότι τίποτα δεν ξεκινά από το μηδέν· κάθε ρήξη κουβαλά μέσα της συσσωρευμένους χρόνους, ήττες και νίκες, φροντίδα και οργή.

Σε μια εποχή διάχυτης αποξένωσης και ελέγχου, εκεί όπου η εξουσία θέλει να προγραμματίσει ακόμα και τα όνειρά μας, η ίδια η ζωή αντιστέκεται. Οι κοινότητες αγώνα, οι συλλογικές εμπειρίες, οι σχέσεις αλληλεγγύης και δημιουργίας ανοίγουν ρωγμές. Οι επαναστάσεις είναι στιγμές που το αδύνατο γίνεται αναγκαίο.

Ως Κενό Δίκτυο, συναντιόμαστε γύρω από αυτό το βιβλίο για να το μοιραστούμε: ως εργαλείο, ως έμπνευση, ως αφορμή για να ξανασκεφτούμε τις μορφές ζωής και αγώνα που έχουμε ανάγκη σήμερα. Γιατί μέσα στον θόρυβο της εποχής, εκεί που όλα μοιάζουν κατακερματισμένα, συνεχίζει να υπάρχει κάτι που μας ενώνει:
η επιθυμία για ελευθερία, για κοινότητα, για έναν κόσμο χωρίς κυριαρχία.

ΛΙΓΑ ΛΟΓΙΑ ΓΙΑ ΤΟ ΒΙΒΛΙΟ

Το βιβλίο BLACK POWER του Θανάση Μήνα παρακολουθεί γραμμικά τα αφροαμερικανικά κινήματα, με τα διακριτά χαρακτηριστικά τους: από τους πρώτους υπέρμαχους της κατάργησης της δουλείας, τους λεγόμενους Abolitionists, στο Black Power των 60’s και από εκεί έως το πρόσφατο Black Lives Matter.  Το «κίνημα για τα πολιτικά δικαιώματα» δεν είναι ενιαίο∙ είναι ένα πολυπλόκαμο άθροισμα κινημάτων, που διακρίνονται μεταξύ τους ανάλογα με την ιδεολογία, τις πρακτικές, τις θρησκευτικές πεποιθήσεις και τους επιμέρους στόχους που βάζουν στο τραπέζι της συζήτησης.

Το βιβλίο του Θανάση Μήνα εστιάζει στις προσωπικότητες που τέθηκαν στην εμπροσθοφυλακή αυτών των κινημάτων. Όχι κατ’ ανάγκη επειδή ήταν χαρισματικές∙ οι μεμονωμένες προσωπικότητες λειτουργούν περισσότερο ως ωροδείκτες, ως συμβολικοί αντιπρόσωποι των συλλογικών αγώνων ενός καταπιεσμένου λαού. Πάντα υπό το πρίσμα του Black Power, το βιβλίο αυτό μιλάει για πρώιμες φεμινίστριες όπως η Ida B. Wells, αμπολισιονιστές όπως ο Frederic Douglas, ερμηνεύτριες του blues που διεκδίκησαν τη σεξουαλική τους ελευθερία όπως η Bessie Smith, πρωτοπόρους συνδικαλιστές όπως ο A. Philip Randolph, νομικούς όπως η Pauli Murray, διανούμενους όπως ο W. E. B. Du Bois και ο Langston Hughes, παναφρικανιστές όπως ο Marcus Garvey, δημοσιογράφους όπως η Ella Baker, πρωτοπόρους ΛΟΑΤΚΙ ακτιβιστές όπως ο Bayard Rustin, ακτιβιστές της Πολιτικής Ανυπακοής όπως η Rosa Parks, εκπαιδευτικούς όπως ο Medgar Evers, μαρξίστριες όπως η Angela Davis, πολιτικοποιημένους ιερείς όπως ο Jesse Jackson, αθλητές που ήρθαν σε σύγκρουση με το κατεστημένο όπως ο Muhammad Ali ή οι Tommie Smith και John Carlos, οξυδερκείς συγγραφείς όπως ο Ralph Ellison, η Toni Morrison ή ο John Edgar Wideman, ριζοσπάστες μουσικούς της jazz όπως ο John Coltrane ή ο Archie Shepp και της soul όπως ο Curtis Mayfield, κινηματογραφιστές όπως ο Spike Lee∙ αναφέρεται επίσης σε κινήματα όπως ο Παναφρικανισμός ή η Αναγέννηση του Χάρλεμ, σε πασιφιστικές θρησκευτικές συσπειρώσεις όπως η Southern Christian Leadership Conference, φοιτητικές ενώσεις όπως η Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee και σε μαχητικές οργανώσεις όπως το Black Panther Party.

Στον πυρήνα του βιβλίου ξεδιπλώνεται η διαλεκτική σχέση (και όχι απλώς αντιπαράθεση) ανάμεσα στον Martin Luther King και στον Malcolm X∙ η μεταξύ τους διαλεκτική ώθησε το κίνημα για τα πολιτικά δικαιώματα στο απώγειό του, την περίοδο από τα μέσα της δεκαετίας του 1950 έως το τέλος της δεκαετίας του 1960.

Στην εποχή μας, η αγωνιστική κουλτούρα που κληροδότησε το Black Lives Matter παραμένει πάντα ζωντανή, σαν φλόγα που σιγοκαίει∙ όσο συνεχίζονται οι φυλετικές και ταξικές ανισότητες και η αστυνομική βία, το BLM απειλεί και πάλι να θεριέψει.

Ο πόλεμος κατά του Ιράν και η καταστροφή της Γάζας είναι μόνο η αρχή. Καλώς ήρθατε στη νέα παγκόσμια τάξη. Στην εποχή της τεχνολογικά εξελιγμένης βαρβαρότητας. Δεν υπάρχουν κανόνες για τους ισχυρούς, μόνο για τους αδύναμους. Αν αντιταχθείς στους ισχυρούς, αν αρνηθείς να υποκύψεις στις ιδιότροπες απαιτήσεις τους, θα σε κατακλύσουν πύραυλοι και βόμβες.

Νοσοκομεία, δημοτικά σχολεία, πανεπιστήμια και συγκροτήματα διαμερισμάτων μετατρέπονται σε ερείπια. Γιατροί, φοιτητές, δημοσιογράφοι, ποιητές, συγγραφείς, επιστήμονες, καλλιτέχνες και πολιτικοί ηγέτες — συμπεριλαμβανομένων των επικεφαλής των διαπραγματευτικών ομάδων — δολοφονούνται κατά δεκάδες χιλιάδες από πυραύλους και δολοφονικά drones.

Οι πόροι — όπως γνωρίζουν οι Βενεζουελάνοι — κλέβονται ανοιχτά. Τα τρόφιμα, το νερό και τα φάρμακα, όπως και στην Παλαιστίνη, χρησιμοποιούνται ως όπλα.

Ας φάνε χώμα.

Διεθνείς οργανισμοί όπως τα Ηνωμένα Έθνη είναι μια παρωδία, άχρηστα παραρτήματα μιας άλλης εποχής. Η ιερότητα των ατομικών δικαιωμάτων, τα ανοιχτά σύνορα και το διεθνές δίκαιο έχουν εξαφανιστεί. Οι πιο διεφθαρμένοι ηγέτες της ανθρώπινης ιστορίας, εκείνοι που μετέτρεψαν πόλεις σε στάχτη, οδήγησαν αιχμαλώτους πληθυσμούς σε χώρους εκτέλεσης και γέμισαν τις περιοχές που κατέλαβαν με μαζικούς τάφους και πτώματα, έχουν επιστρέψει με μανία.

Εκτοξεύουν τα ίδια υπεραρρενωπά κλισέ. Εκτοξεύουν τα ίδια άθλια, ρατσιστικά κλισέ. Εκτοξεύουν την ίδια μανιχαϊστική αντίληψη για το καλό και το κακό, το μαύρο και το άσπρο. Εκτοξεύουν την ίδια παιδαριώδη γλώσσα της απόλυτης κυριαρχίας και της ανεξέλεγκτης βίας.

Δολοφόνοι κλόουν. Παλιάτσοι. Ηλίθιοι. Έχουν καταλάβει τα ηνία της εξουσίας για να υλοποιήσουν τις παράφρονες και τα καρτουνίστικα οράματά τους, ενώ λεηλατούν το κράτος για δικό τους πλουτισμό.

«Αφού έγιναν μάρτυρες βάρβαρων μαζικών δολοφονιών επί μήνες, γνωρίζοντας ότι αυτές σχεδιάστηκαν, εκτελέστηκαν και υποστηρίχθηκαν από ανθρώπους πολύ παρόμοιους με τους ίδιους, οι οποίοι τις παρουσίασαν ως συλλογική αναγκαιότητα, νόμιμη και μάλιστα ανθρωπιστική, εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι αισθάνονται πλέον λιγότερο άνετα στον κόσμο», γράφει ο Pankaj Mishra στο βιβλίο του «The World After Gaza» (Ο Κόσμος μετά τη Γάζα).

«Το σοκ από αυτή την ανανεωμένη έκθεση σε ένα ιδιόμορφο σύγχρονο κακό – το κακό που στην προ-σύγχρονη εποχή διαπράττονταν μόνο από ψυχοπαθή άτομα και που τον περασμένο αιώνα εξαπολύθηκε από ηγέτες και πολίτες πλούσιων και υποτίθεται πολιτισμένων κοινωνιών – δεν μπορεί να θεωρηθεί υπερβολική εκτίμηση. Ούτε μπορεί να θεωρηθεί υπερβολική εκτίμηση η ηθική άβυσσος που αντιμετωπίζουμε».

Οι υποταγμένοι αποτελούν ιδιοκτησία, εμπορεύματα προς εκμετάλλευση για κέρδος ή ευχαρίστηση. Τα αρχεία Epstein αποκαλύπτουν την αρρώστια και την σκληρότητα της άρχουσας τάξης. Φιλελεύθεροι. Συντηρητικοί. Πρυτάνεις πανεπιστημίων. Ακαδημαϊκοί. Φιλάνθρωποι. Τιτάνες της Wall Street. Διασημότητες. Δημοκρατικοί. Ρεπουμπλικάνοι.

Βυθίζονται σε έναν ανεξέλεγκτο ηδονισμό. Φοιτούν σε ιδιωτικά σχολεία και διαθέτουν ιδιωτική υγειονομική περίθαλψη. Ζουν κλεισμένοι σε φυσαλίδες που δημιουργούν οι ίδιοι, περιτριγυρισμένοι από κόλακες, δημοσιογράφους, οικονομικούς συμβούλους, δικηγόρους, υπηρέτες, σοφέρ, γκουρού της αυτοβοήθειας, πλαστικούς χειρουργούς και προσωπικούς γυμναστές.

Διαμένουν σε αυστηρά φυλασσόμενες κατοικίες και κάνουν διακοπές σε ιδιωτικά νησιά. Ταξιδεύουν με ιδιωτικά τζετ και γιγαντιαία γιοτ. Ζουν σε μια άλλη πραγματικότητα, αυτό που ο δημοσιογράφος του Wall Street Journal Ρόμπερτ Φρανκ αποκαλεί τον κόσμο του «Richistan», έναν κόσμο ιδιωτικών Xanadu όπου διοργανώνουν όργια σαν του Νέρωνα, συνάπτουν τις δόλιες συμφωνίες τους, συσσωρεύουν τα δισεκατομμύριά τους και απορρίπτουν όσους χρησιμοποιούν, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των παιδιών, σαν να είναι σκουπίδια. Κανείς σε αυτόν τον μαγικό κύκλο δεν λογοδοτεί. Κανένα αμάρτημα δεν είναι πολύ διεφθαρμένο. Είναι ανθρώπινα παράσιτα. Εκσπλαχνίζουν το κράτος για προσωπικό κέρδος. Τρομοκρατούν τις «κατώτερες φυλές της γης». Κλείνουν τα τελευταία, αναιμικά απομεινάρια της ανοιχτής κοινωνίας μας.

«Δεν θα υπάρχει περιέργεια, καμία απόλαυση της διαδικασίας της ζωής», όπως γράφει ο Τζορτζ Όργουελ στο «1984». «Όλες οι ανταγωνιστικές απολαύσεις θα καταστραφούν. Αλλά πάντα — μην το ξεχνάς αυτό, Γουίνστον — πάντα θα υπάρχει η μέθη της εξουσίας, που αυξάνεται συνεχώς και γίνεται συνεχώς πιο λεπτή. Πάντα, κάθε στιγμή, θα υπάρχει η συγκίνηση της νίκης, η αίσθηση του να ποδοπατάς έναν εχθρό που είναι αβοήθητος.

Αν θέλεις μια εικόνα του μέλλοντος, φαντάσου μια μπότα να πατάει πάνω σε ένα ανθρώπινο πρόσωπο — για πάντα».

Ο νόμος, παρά τις λίγες γενναίες προσπάθειες μιας χούφτας δικαστών — οι οποίοι σύντομα θα εκκαθαριστούν — αποτελεί όργανο καταστολής. Το δικαστικό σώμα υπάρχει για να σκηνοθετεί εικονικές δίκες. Πέρασα πολύ χρόνο στα δικαστήρια του Λονδίνου καλύπτοντας την φαρσοκωμωδία που θύμιζε έργα του Ντίκενς κατά τη διάρκεια της δίωξης του Τζούλιαν Ασάνζ. Μια «Λουμπιάνκα στον Τάμεση». Τα δικά μας δικαστήρια δεν είναι καλύτερα. Το Υπουργείο Δικαιοσύνης μας είναι μια μηχανή εκδίκησης.

Μασκοφόροι, οπλισμένοι μπράβοι πλημμυρίζουν τους δρόμους των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών και δολοφονούν αμάχους, συμπεριλαμβανομένων [Αμερικανών] πολιτών. Οι κυβερνώντες μανδαρίνοι ξοδεύουν δισεκατομμύρια για να μετατρέψουν αποθήκες σε κέντρα κράτησης και στρατόπεδα συγκέντρωσης. Επιμένουν ότι θα στεγάσουν μόνο τους χωρίς χαρτιά, τους εγκληματίες, αλλά η παγκόσμια άρχουσα τάξη μας ψεύδεται όπως αναπνέει. Στα μάτια τους, είμαστε παράσιτα, είτε τυφλά και αδιαμφισβήτητα υπάκουα είτε εγκληματίες. Δεν υπάρχει τίποτα ενδιάμεσα.

Αυτά τα στρατόπεδα συγκέντρωσης, όπου δεν υπάρχει δίκαιη δίκη και οι άνθρωποι εξαφανίζονται, έχουν σχεδιαστεί για εμάς. Και με «εμάς» εννοώ τους πολίτες αυτής της νεκρής δημοκρατίας. Ωστόσο, παρακολουθούμε, έκπληκτοι, δύσπιστοι, περιμένοντας παθητικά τη δική μας υποδούλωση.

Δεν θα αργήσει.

Η βαρβαρότητα στο Ιράν, τον Λίβανο και τη Γάζα είναι η ίδια βαρβαρότητα που αντιμετωπίζουμε και στη χώρα μας. Όσοι διαπράττουν τη γενοκτονία, τις μαζικές σφαγές και τον αδικαιολόγητο πόλεμο εναντίον του Ιράν είναι οι ίδιοι άνθρωποι που διαλύουν τους δημοκρατικούς μας θεσμούς.

Ο κοινωνικός ανθρωπολόγος Arjun Appadurai αποκαλεί αυτό που συμβαίνει «μια τεράστια παγκόσμια μαλθουσιανή διόρθωση» που «αποσκοπεί στο να προετοιμάσει τον κόσμο για τους νικητές της παγκοσμιοποίησης, χωρίς τον ενοχλητικό θόρυβο των ηττημένων της».

Ω, λένε οι επικριτές, μην είστε τόσο απαισιόδοξοι. Μην είστε τόσο αρνητικοί. Πού είναι η ελπίδα; Αλήθεια, δεν είναι τόσο άσχημα τα πράγματα.

Αν το πιστεύετε αυτό, είστε μέρος του προβλήματος, ένα άθελά σας γρανάζι στο μηχανισμό του φασιστικού κράτους μας που εδραιώνεται με ταχείς ρυθμούς.

Η πραγματικότητα τελικά θα καταρρίψει αυτές τις «ελπιδοφόρες» φαντασιώσεις, αλλά μέχρι τότε θα είναι πολύ αργά.

Η αληθινή απόγνωση δεν είναι αποτέλεσμα της ακριβούς ανάγνωσης της πραγματικότητας. Η αληθινή απόγνωση προέρχεται από την παράδοση, είτε μέσω της φαντασίας είτε της απάθειας, σε μια κακοήθη εξουσία. Η αληθινή απόγνωση είναι αδυναμία. Και η αντίσταση, η ουσιαστική αντίσταση, ακόμα κι αν είναι σχεδόν βέβαιο ότι είναι καταδικασμένη, είναι ενδυνάμωση. Προσδίδει αυτοεκτίμηση. Προσδίδει αξιοπρέπεια. Προσδίδει ικανότητα δράσης. Είναι η μόνη πράξη που μας επιτρέπει να χρησιμοποιούμε τη λέξη ελπίδα.

Οι Ιρανοί, οι Λιβανέζοι και οι Παλαιστίνιοι γνωρίζουν ότι αυτά τα τέρατα δεν κατευνάζονται. Οι παγκόσμιες ελίτ δεν πιστεύουν σε τίποτα. Δεν αισθάνονται τίποτα. Δεν είναι αξιόπιστες. The war on Iran and the obliteration of Gaza is the beginning. Welcome to the new world order. The age of technologically-advanced barbarism. There are no rules for the strong, only for the weak. Oppose the strong, refuse to bow to its capricious demands and you are showered with missiles and bombs.

Hospitals, elementary schools, universities and apartment complexes are reduced to rubble. Doctors, students, journalists, poets, writers, scientists, artists and political leaders — including the heads of negotiating teams — are murdered in the tens of thousands by missiles and killer drones.

Resources – as the Venezuelans know – are openly stolen. Food, water and medicine, as in Palestine, are weaponized.

Let them eat dirt.

International bodies such as the United Nations are pantomime, useless appendages of another age. The sanctity of individual rights, open borders and international law have vanished. The most depraved leaders of human history, those who reduced cities to ashes, herded captive populations to execution sites and littered lands they occupied with mass graves and corpses, have returned with a vengeance.

They spew the same hypermasculine tropes. They spew the same vile, racist cant. They spew the same Manichaean vision of good and evil, black and white. They spew the same infantile language of total dominance and unrestrained violence.

Killer clowns. Buffoons. Idiots. They have seized the levers of power to carry out their demented and cartoonish visions as they pillage the state for their own enrichment.

“After witnessing savage mass murder over several months, with the knowledge that it was conceived, executed and endorsed by people much like themselves, who presented it as a collective necessity, legitimate and even humane, millions now feel less at home in the world,” writes Pankaj Mishra in “The World After Gaza.” “The shock of this renewed exposure to a peculiarly modern evil – the evil done in the pre-modern era only by psychopathic individuals and unleashed in the last century by rulers and citizens of rich and supposedly civilized societies – cannot be overstated. Nor can the moral abyss we confront.”

The subjugated are property, commodities to exploit for profit or pleasure. The Epstein Files expose the sickness and heartlessness of the ruling class. Liberals. Conservatives. University presidents. Academics. Philanthropists. Wall Street titans. Celebrities. Democrats. Republicans.

They wallow in unbridled hedonism. They go to private schools and have private health care. They are cocooned in self-referential bubbles by sycophants, publicists, financial advisers, lawyers, servants, chauffeurs, self-help gurus, plastic surgeons and personal trainers. They reside in heavily guarded estates and vacation on private islands. They travel on private jets and gargantuan yachts. They exist in another reality, what the Wall Street Journal reporter Robert Frank dubs the world of “Richistan,” a world of private Xanadus where they hold Nero-like bacchanalias, make their perfidious deals, amass their billions and cast aside those they use, including children, as if they are refuse. No one in this magic circle is accountable. No sin too depraved. They are human parasites. They disembowel the state for personal profit. They terrorize the “lesser breeds of the earth.” They shut down the last, anemic vestiges of our open society.

“There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life,” as George Orwell writes in “1984.” “All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always— do not forget this, Winston— always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face— forever.”

The law, despite a few valiant efforts by a handful of judges — who will soon be purged — is an instrument of repression. The judiciary exists to stage show trials. I spent a lot of time in the London courts covering the Dickensian farce during the persecution of Julian Assange. A Lubyanka-on-the-Thames. Our courts are no better. Our Department of Justice is a vengeance machine.

Masked, armed goons flood the streets of the United States and murder civilians, including citizens. The ruling mandarins are spending billions to convert warehouses into detention centers and concentration camps. They insist they will only house the undocumented, the criminals, but our global ruling class lies like it breathes. In their eyes, we are vermin, either blindly and unquestionably obedient or criminals. There is nothing in between.

These concentration camps, where there is no due process and people are disappeared, are designed for us. And by us, I mean the citizens of this dead republic. Yet we watch, stupefied, disbelieving, passively waiting for our own enslavement.

It won’t be long.

The savagery in Iran, Lebanon and Gaza is the same savagery we face at home. Those carrying out the genocide, mass slaughter and unprovoked war on Iran are the same people dismantling our democratic institutions.

The social anthropologist Arjun Appadurai calls what is happening “a vast worldwide Malthusian correction” that is “geared to preparing the world for the winners of globalization, minus the inconvenient noise of its losers.”

Oh, the critics say, don’t be so bleak. Don’t be so negative. Where is the hope? Really, it’s not that bad.

If you believe this you are part of the problem, an unwitting cog in the machinery of our rapidly consolidating fascist state.

Reality will eventually implode these “hopeful” fantasies, but by then it will be too late.

True despair is not a result of accurately reading reality. True despair comes from surrendering, either through fantasy or apathy, to malignant power. True despair is powerlessness. And resistance, meaningful resistance, even if it is almost certainly doomed, is empowerment. It confers self-worth. It confers dignity. It confers agency. It is the only action that allows us to use the word hope.

The Iranians, Lebanese and Palestinians know there is no appeasing these monsters. The global elites believe nothing. They feel nothing. They cannot be trusted. They exhibit the core traits of all psychopaths — superficial charm, grandiosity and self-importance, a need for constant stimulation, a penchant for lying, deception, manipulation and the inability to feel remorse or guilt. They disdain as weakness the virtues of empathy, honesty, compassion and self-sacrifice. They live by the creed of Me. Me. Me.

“The fact that millions of people share the same vices does not make these vices virtues, the fact that they share so many errors does not make the errors to be truths, and the fact that millions of people share the same forms of mental pathology does not make these people sane,” Eric Fromm writes in “The Sane Society.”

We have witnessed evil for nearly three years in Gaza. We watch it now in Lebanon and Iran. We see this evil excused or masked by political leaders and the media.

The New York Times, in a page out of Orwell, sent an internal memo telling reporters and editors to eschew the terms “refugee camps, “occupied territory,” “ethnic cleansing” and, of course, “genocide” when writing about Gaza. Those who name and denounce this evil are smeared, blacklisted and purged from university campuses and the public sphere. They are arrested and deported. A deadening silence is descending upon us, the silence of all authoritarian states. Fail to do your duty, fail to cheerlead the war on Iran, and see your broadcasting license revoked, as the Chair of the F.C.C. Brendan Carr has proposed.

We have enemies. They are not in Palestine. They are not in Lebanon. They are not in Iran. They are here. Among us. They dictate our lives. They are traitors to our ideals. They are traitors to our country. They envision a world of slaves and masters. Gaza is only the start. There are no internal mechanisms for reform. We can obstruct or surrender.

Those are the only choices left.

American taxpayers are still hemorrhaging from the made-for-Israel war in Iraq, a war audaciously offered as one that would “pay for itself.” Instead, it was paid in Iraqi and American blood, ruins and financed by American debt. The promised democracy was a broken state, regional chaos, and the afterbirth of terror and resistance that continues to metastasize across the Arab world. Marketed as a short, decisive campaign, Iraq became a two-decade-long disaster with no exit in sight. Trillions were burned on lies manufactured by Israel-first Zionists in Washington, while generations of Americans—many not even born when the invasion began—were conscripted into inheriting the debt, the interest, and the moral stain.

The real balance sheet of that war is etched into nearly 5,000 American tombstones and the endless corridors of veterans’ hospitals. Before that blood-soaked bill is even paid, the very same architect, using the same lies, has succeeded again in dragging the U. S. into another made-for-Israel war, this time against Iran. Iraq was not an aberration; it was a rehearsal. Yet, Iran doesn’t appear to be the final act on the Israeli menu. In recent weeks, former Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett declared that Turkey is next. And it is the U.S., not Israel, that is expected to keep paying for wars, America neither needed nor chose.

The evidence of who set the clock of this war is unmistakable. The most revealing admission did not come from Tehran, Moscow, or Beijing, but from the U.S. State Department. In an unguarded moment, the U.S. Secretary of State admitted that the timing of this war was not an American choice. This became painfully clear when the State Department was caught unprepared to help evacuate tens of thousands of Americans from the war zone. As U.S. ambassadors hurried to evacuate their staff and families, desperate citizens were told their government could not assist and were advised to arrange their own departures, after airports had already closed.

This is not a minor detail. It’s a government that is willing to sacrifice the well-being and security of its citizens by joining a war decided by someone else. It goes to the heart of sovereignty and democratic accountability. A nation that chooses to go to war prepares its people, its diplomacy, and its logistics. A nation that is dragged into war improvises and hopes for the best.

Iran, for its part, is not the caricature often presented by the American Secretary of War and Donald Trump. It is a country prepared for drawn-out conflict and strategic patience. During the nearly eight-year Iran-Iraq War, Tehran fought a grinding, no-win war against a better-armed adversary. Against the expectations of Western military analysts, Iran endured. In a grim irony, it even committed the greatest of all sins: purchasing weapons from Israel, falling into Tel Aviv’s cynical strategy to weaken both Baghdad and Tehran simultaneously. Israel was willing to arm its supposed arch-enemy as part of its broader calculus of exhaustion and division.

That history matters today. Iran has demonstrated, repeatedly, a willingness to absorb punishment, and extend conflicts over time. At the end of the day, and by all means necessary, Iran is unlikely to surrender. In a protracted war of attrition to bleed the world economy, Tehran could move to close the Strait of Hormuz, an oil blood line for world economies. Iran may be economically battered, and it has been for decades under severe sanctions, but that very weakness reduces its restraint. A country with little left to lose is more inclined to impose pain on others, including Western and neighboring welfare oil economies dependent on uninterrupted energy exports. Meanwhile, regional instability in the Gulf and prolonged American entanglement create the perfect parasitic symbiosis for Israel: a state that flourishes in the shadows of regional chaos like a scavenger thriving on the scrap of a landfill.

President Trump has suggested escorting oil shipments in the Strait to keep the oil flowing. The macho bravado may play well on television or for the stock market, but history, old and recent, offers daunting realities. The same was attempted during the Iraq-Iran war in the 1980s but failed. More recently, the U.S., the EU, and Israel combined failed to force a much smaller and poorer country—Yemen—to open the Red Sea. After months of bombardment, siege and naval pressure, Washington was forced into negotiations, and even then, Yemeni forces continued to block vessels linked to Israel until Gaza ceasefire.

The comparison is useful. The shorelines area under the Houthi control of the Red Sea (green map in the link) in the north of Yemen, is a much wider maritime passage. The Strait of Hormuz, by contrast, is so narrow in a clear day each shore is visible from the other. To borrow a simple image, in the Houthi area the width of the Red Sea is an Amazon River and where Hormuz is a stream. The narrowness of the Hormuz Strait makes control easier for Iran and exposes the vulnerability of U.S. naval ships. Before promising to escort commercial shipping, a responsible administration should ask a basic question: if a small, impoverished Yemen could not be subdued by the world’s most powerful militaries, how exactly will American warships be safer under the reach of fire in the narrower Strait?

There is another question Washington refuses to entertain: How will Americans feel when they realize they are risking lives, ships, and economic stability largely to advance Israel’s sole strategic objectives? This is not an abstract question. It is a political and economic reckoning, purposefully delayed. Especially since Americans are still reeling from the cost of previous Israeli wars, and now, they are asked to take on a new national debt—$200 billion—to bankroll yet another war, especially made for Israel.

The made-for-Israel wars may have begun in Iraq but will not end with Iran. Israeli false flags are poised to provoke further escalations designed to entrap even states traditionally friendly to Tehran, such as Oman. For Israel, victory remains incomplete unless it drags Gulf Arab states into open confrontation with Iran, hardening divisions that may last generations. Iranian mistrust of the Gulf Arabs would likely endure even in the event of regime change. In this calculus, Israel “wins” not only on the battlefield, but by entrenching lasting hostility between Iran and the Arab world, ensuring a permanently fragmented region.

More than two decades ago, the illegal war against Iraq was cooked in the dens of the Pentagon by Israel-first ideologues and sold to the American public through the managed media, ruse and weapons of mass deception. The current war is, in some ways, even more brazen. It was exclusively designed in the war ministry offices of Tel Aviv, and Trump obliged.

This is not America’s war. The decision was made elsewhere, and timed elsewhere, fought on behalf of someone else to serve the strategic objectives of a foreign country. Washington has subordinated the American national interest to the tribal agenda of Israeli-firsters inside the Beltway. Simply put: Tel Aviv chooses the war, and Washington pays the bill.
