“If Bolsonaro wins, they kill us; if Lula wins, they let us die.”

In Brazil, the third term of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of the Workers’ Party is drawing to a close. Lula could win a fourth term—making him the most-elected politician in the country’s history—if he defeats the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro. However, Flávio Bolsonaro—son of the man dubbed the “Trump of the Tropics,” who attempted a coup d’état in 2023 strikingly similar to the one Donald Trump attempted in 2021—is dangerously close to taking the lead in the polls.

It is time to assess the threats that a new Bolsonaro administration would pose, as well as the risks that will remain or emerge under a continuing center-left government. We spoke with fellow Brazilian anarchists active on a variety of fronts about the challenges that both scenarios could pose to human beings, the environment, and social movements resisting capitalism and colonialism.

What the 2026 Elections Mean for Brazil and the Americas

The 2026 election will determine to what extent the gains achieved through hard-fought social struggles are stripped away. Just as Trump returned to power via the 2024 election, there is a risk that Flávio Bolsonaro could resume his father’s attacks on the working class, marginalized groups, women, Indigenous peoples, and the environment. The Workers’ Party and the left in general have not managed to produce new figures to succeed their charismatic leader; without Lula, they appear doomed to electoral defeat.

There is a risk that the left will fail to field an effective new candidate for 2030, when Lula will no longer be eligible for reelection. It is also likely that, if elected, Lula could fall victim to the so-called “incumbency crisis“—a pattern that has emerged in elections worldwide this decade. Leaders on both the left and the right see their public standing erode after taking office, as they fail to address the inexorable impact of capitalism on the lives of ordinary people. Symbolism and abstract ideology carry significant weight in the increasingly polarized political landscapes of bourgeois electoral politics, and around the world, the ruling class is relying less and less on the carrot and more and more on the stick.

Therefore, it is likely that the far right will soon return to power. This is a reality we must face. It could happen in 2030, but it could occur as early as 2026.

This is taking place in a context in which Trump’s United States is attempting to reorganize the world order through force, showing everyone what anarchists have always known: that representative democracy, international law, and institutions like the United Nations exist at the pleasure of the ruling class and will not protect us. In the course of its first fourteen months in power, the second Trump administration toppled two heads of state—killing the Iranian leader and abducting the Venezuelan president. In both cases, there was open talk of seizing the oil from these territories; in Venezuela, the administration successfully stole billions of barrels, which are now under Washington’s control.

As head of state, Flávio Bolsonaro would voluntarily hand over Brazilian workers, forests, and land to US imperial interests. We are already in a dire situation under the neoliberal arrangement that Lula manages; with a fascist who is beholden to the US in power, the struggle for survival would become even harder. Furthermore, the oil, minerals, rivers, and forests in the territory known as Brazil would serve to fuel the technological, military, and nuclear arms race that endangers life across the entire planet.

The United States is openly attempting to interfere in Brazilian elections to favor Bolsonaro by sending “observers” to question election results and threatening to impose further tariffs on Brazil. At the same time, the US-based company Meta—which controls much of the content circulating on social media—is blocking Lula’s campaign content just weeks before the election without explanation. The same elites with the same reactionary agenda control both military power and the companies that dominate technology and digital communication.

The Consequences of Lula’s Third Term

The administration of Jair Bolsonaro left a landscape of scorched earth, which still haunts those who endured it. Bolsonaro ruled the country through a global pandemic without any consideration for ordinary people, guided by conspiracy theories and spreading misinformation. He managed to shift the entire political spectrum a few steps to the right. Against that backdrop, Lula emerged as the only way out. Although his platform has become increasingly moderate and conservative, many left voters see his administration as an oasis in the desert. They hope that, over one or two terms, Lula will resolve the nation’s social, economic, political, and environmental problems, while once again forging alliances with political oligarchies and transnational capital.

After a narrow victory in 2022, Lula took office and ascended the ramp of the Planalto Palace alongside representatives of marginalized groups and social minorities: a Black child, an Indigenous leader, a disabled influencer, a teacher, a metalworker, and a recyclable materials collector. Yet within months, he had allied himself with the Centrão (a bloc of pragmatic, centrist parties), the right wing, and the usual elites. Although his administration started out with high popularity thanks to income tax cuts for the poor and falling unemployment, agrarian reform and land demarcation remain stalled, while the administration has imposed spending caps on social programs. Lula’s third term is serving to mitigate the traumas of capitalism that were pushed to the extreme during the Bolsonaro administration, yet it has done so without challenging the gains of elites who profit from interest and rent-seeking. Little is being done to regulate the “platformization”—or “Uberization”—of precarious labor, while digital betting platforms hook and drain the earnings of minimum-wage workers.

2022: Lula’s inauguration on Planalto Palace. A spectacle to distract.

Even more restrained than the first four Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) administrations under Lula and his successor Dilma Rousseff, the Lula-Alckmin term has been characterized by heightened economic conservatism and the suppression of social struggles. While meeting with government and corporate representatives at the COP30 in Belém, in the middle of the Brazilian Amazon, to discuss environmental “solutions” with the very ones destroying the environment, Lula moved forward with a decree privatizing the use of the Amazonian Madeira, Tocantins, and Tapajós rivers as waterways for transporting grain, ore, and timber. This was in addition to implementing various other projects with significant social and environmental impacts under the third iteration of the PAC (Growth Acceleration). Despite gesturing at the so-called ecological transition, the PT government has repeated the same extractivist, raw-material-exporting formula that has given rise to environmental disasters.

The president of Petrobras (the majority state-owned Brazilian multinational energy corporation) has echoed Donald Trump’s “drill, baby drill” slogan, emphasizing that drilling for oil at the mouth of the Amazon River remains a government priority to generate the dollars needed to balance the books—despite public opposition and warnings from scientists regarding the risks of exploration in an area with such sensitive biodiversity. In the name of expanding capitalist production infrastructure, entire biomes and populations are being sold for scrap. In the Yanomami Indigenous Territory in Roraima—a symbol of the humanitarian crisis that struck Indigenous peoples during the Bolsonaro administration—the death toll remains at least as high as it was under the previous government, if not higher. Lula promised to bring the crisis under control during his election campaign, but this has not occurred.

The situation in cities has not been much better. While sticking to the formula of exporting ore and agricultural products to fund social spending, the Lula-Alckmin administration has only paid lip service to popular demands to end the “6×1” work schedule (six days of work followed by one day off). They only incorporated the topic into their campaign platform on the eve of the elections. If Congress ever does approve an end to the six-day workweek, it will be the consequence of popular mobilization, not action by the self-proclaimed “workers’ government”—an administration that intentionally undermined national marches calling for an end to the 6×1 schedule by calling for its base to take to the streets against amnesty for Jair Bolsonaro and other participants in the 2023 coup attempt. This is the same pattern we saw when the Workers Party refused to support pandemic-era protests against the Bolsonaro government.

September 2026: App-based delivery workers protest for better working conditions and a minimum delivery fee. Grassroots organizing against the “uberization” of work.

In 2024, Lula acted to prevent any official government statement regarding the 60th anniversary of the 1964 business-military coup, yielding to pressure from Defense Minister José Múcio—an ally of Jair Bolsonaro and the military high command that had orchestrated the attempted coup of January 8, 2023.

The government began adopting a right-wing approach to public security, even as femicide rates hit historic highs in the country and police massacres grew increasingly brutal—such as the 2025 mass killings in Penha and Alemão (Rio de Janeiro), the deadliest police operation in history, which claimed over 120 lives. To sustain a declining republic and implement the “PAC 3” developmentalist infrastructure projects designed to appease foreign capital, this administration has ramped up policing, further armed security forces, and expanded the prison system and mass incarceration. To this end, it launched a new version of the National Public Security with Citizenship Program (PRONASCI 2).

Speaking of the “security” industry, Lula’s government spent 50 million dollars on Israeli weaponry over the past three years. While condemning Israel for the Palestinian genocide on several occasions, such as at the UN General Assembly in 2025, the Lula administration never severed ties with the Zionist government. Likewise, despite condemning the embargo that endangers the lives of millions in Cuba, Brazil continues to withhold fuel shipments to the island while having sent oil directly to fuel the Israeli war machine.

Protesters march in São Paulo for an end to the six-day workweek.

And if the Far Right Wins?

Flávio Bolsonaro is the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who attempted a coup in 2023 with the help of the country’s security forces and political and economic elites—in a manner similar to, yet arguably more dangerous than, Trump’s actions following his 2020 defeat. His governing agenda is openly inspired by the authoritarian public security programs of Donald Trump in the US and Nayib Bukele in El Salvador, as well as the dismantling of social protections championed by Javier Milei in Argentina.

We have already witnessed how the far right can exacerbate a large-scale tragedy like the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, as events like El Niño strike a world already grappling with global warming, the class divide deepens; politicians and the super-rich expose the sham of international law and push for a global civil war, as evidenced by US aggression against Iran and Venezuela. A Bolsonarista government operating with direct US intervention could create even more devastating catastrophes. We must prepare now for the moment when the institutional Left can no longer mitigate the consequences of capitalist collapse and ascendant fascism, nor prevent narrow electoral victories by the right. That future is no longer a distant prospect.

Thanks to their destructive ideologies and lack of genuine management skills, Trump and Bolsonaro were defeated in democratic elections. Their unpredictability makes them dangerous even to the elites who desire a measure of stability and a solid governing agenda. Yet popular and electoral support for these leaders remains steadfast, effectively splitting society right down the middle.

It is no longer just “the economy, stupid”—as the political playbooks of the 1990s and 2000s put it. What mattered to voters then—more than ideology or moral values—was the tangible impact that government actions had on the average citizen’s pocketbook. In the 21st century, other factors are coming into play. Both Joe Biden and Lula achieved strong economic indicators by the end of their terms: low unemployment, rising average incomes, and controlled inflation. Yet neither managed to win over a large enough share of the electorate to secure a commanding lead. Democrats failed to prevent Trump from winning a second term in 2024, and Jair Bolsonaro’s son is threatening Lula’s lead in the polls for the 2026 election.

The so-called polarization between dominant camps in electoral politics derives from factors far more complex than objective economic figures. For Trump supporters of the MAGA (“Make America Great Again”) movement in the United States and members of the so-called “Bolsonarista Digital Party,” the battle between left and right is an existential struggle—a fight over identity. It is often framed as a “holy war” between “good and evil,” in which everything is negotiable except devotion to their leader and “savior.” Far-right populist leaders hold such appeal for the public precisely because they present themselves as anti-establishment figures in a world in which no one believes in the system any longer and both right-wing and left-wing elements of the state have worked together to ensure that no genuinely grassroots alternative to it can emerge.

When we speak of a social base as fundamental to advancing a long-term political agenda, we must acknowledge that the Brazilian far-right—much like its counterparts across the Americas and parts of Europe—is far more mobilized for propaganda and recruitment than any left or anti-authoritarian formation. It achieved this by appropriating the tools, digital platforms, and decentralized organizational methods originally pioneered by the radical left. They continue to operate independently, championing their leaders’ rhetoric and recruiting activists.

When figures such as Bolsonaro, Trump, Vladimir Putin, or Milei take control of an entire nation, the perils of this mobilization become starkly apparent. The greater the concentration of economic, military, and political power and perceived legitimacy a state holds, the more severe the consequences for vulnerable groups when that power falls into the hands of authoritarian, egocentric leaders. With a single government order, they can dismantle the policies and structures that sustain millions of lives or declare war against internal, external, or even imaginary enemies.

The heads of companies such as Amazon, Meta, Google, Apple, and Tesla/SpaceX attended the Trump’s second inauguration in 2025 to hail the “return of the king,” standing alongside leaders intent on dragging capitalism back to an era of raw colonialism and genocidal expropriation. Some—such as the owners of Meta and Google—have abandoned the ostensibly progressive rhetoric that characterized Silicon Valley a decade ago, embracing masculinist and authoritarian values.

Voting Cannot Defeat Dystopia

What happens in Gaza—or in any slum, ghetto, or forest—can happen to any population deemed undesirable, to any insurgency or rebel territory. The same military equipment Israel uses in Palestine is sold at international trade shows to police forces for controlling the outskirts of the Global South or arresting and deporting immigrants in the United States. The tech companies controlling the social media platforms, banking transactions, and messaging apps that billions of people use every day are the same ones developing the software and artificial intelligence that control increasingly autonomous lethal weaponry. They harvest our data just as they harvest the data of Palestinian, Lebanese, and Iranian civilian targets. We need ways of communicating and sharing data and resources that do not fuel a war machine that will turn against us if ever we rise up, or—if we never do—whenever our leaders see fit.

Floods, fires, droughts, heatwaves, misogyny, racism, epidemics, forced migration, and police forces that are increasingly brutal and heavily equipped. Political leaders and tech billionaires speak openly about waging genocidal wars to protect their interests. Those perpetrating the most documented genocide of all time in Gaza have faced no consequences or obstacles. The proponents of fascism exploit these crises to re-emerge unabashedly across the globe. Today, crisis is not a passing moment, but a permanent condition that will continue to deepen until the day the system collapses.

In this context, all discontent that fails to become revolutionary serves as fuel for reactionary movements and parties. We need ways of being and acting in the world that do not rely on the benevolence of a ruler who leaves office in four years, or on institutions so powerful and centralized that we cannot exert leverage upon them. We need ways to act outside and beyond the electoral cycle—rather than delegating our power to representatives, we need to take action and organize ourselves to defend the world we wish to inhabit.

Anarchist and anti-fascist Atlético fans marching against the six-day work week.

By seeking to reform the institutions of state democracy, we only help to perpetuate a system of domination that imprisons and kills Black and Indigenous populations, that drives femicide as well as the destruction of biomes, of the essential foundations of life on Earth. Unless we organize society in a way that prevents tyrants from holding power, nothing we achieve will ever be secure.

Just as Bolsonaro shifted the entire political spectrum to the right—reducing the Left to merely seeking to conserve social gains and basic rights—new far-right candidates are normalizing even more authoritarian proposals. Even without a real chance of victory, figures like Renan Santos (of the Missão Party and the MBL) attempt to break away from Bolsonarism by making even more extremist and sensationalist statements. Their goal is to normalize fascist discourse for future generations so that, during times of heightened social conflict, their “easy solutions” appear more appealing to groups seeking to use violence against the oppressed to safeguard their own privileges.

The recent Banco Master scandal—the largest case of tax fraud ever recorded in Brazil—involved the misappropriation of 57 Billions Reais (11 billion dollars) from pension funds, companies, and private citizens. The fortune of its owner, Daniel Vorcaro, helped finance a propaganda film supporting Jair Bolsonaro—in English and featuring Hollywood actors—which served as a slush fund to bankroll the lives of his relatives and allies in the United States. The idea was to persuade the Trump administration to intervene in Brazilian politics and the economy. At the same time, Vorcaro uses his money and influence to buy off members of the judiciary and parliament, bankroll emerging far-right leaders, and facilitate illegal mining ventures in Minas Gerais. These operations pose environmental and social risks—much like the ventures that led to the tailings dam collapses in the towns of Brumadinho and Mariana, which killed people and animals and destroyed forests and entire rivers.

This single case illustrates how the elites are united and organized to defend their interests, promoting an agenda that links corruption, fascism, and environmental destruction in a war against the people for control over our lives and territories.

The only way out of this scenario is to organize and forge alliances to defend ourselves and the planet against the tyrants and the genocidal forces that serve them. We must take direct action, just as the peoples of the Lower, Middle, and Upper Tapajós—alongside the Tupinambá, fisherfolk, and quilombolas—did when they occupied the multinational Cargill’s port terminal for over a month, halting the company’s distribution and logistics. Movements from cities and other territories joined in, raising awareness, showing solidarity in person, and escalating the struggle by occupying company offices and organizing protests in various cities.

Autonomous action—unconstrained by the pacifying influence that characterizes movements under the tutelage of the Workers’ Party—is the only way forward. At no point in history has fascism been defeated solely through electoral victories. We need to draw inspiration from and publicize urban and rural occupations, the self-demarcation of Indigenous lands, app-based delivery workers’ strikes, and mutual aid networks in the outskirts. We need to build collectives and social movements that are organized and self-determined from the grassroots up—like the women in Argentina and Mexico fighting for abortion rights and against femicide, or those fighting for life and freedom in Iran. We must learn from the youth in Nepal and Indonesia challenging their governments and police; from immigrants and citizens organizing resistance against ICE—the immigration enforcement agency acting as Trump’s militia in the United States; and from the territories linked to the Teia dos Povos (Web of Peoples), which fosters alliances among quilombos, Indigenous lands, and urban and rural occupations in Brazil, grounded in an anti-colonial and anti-capitalist perspective.

The struggle is for life, freedom, and self-determination. No matter who wins the elections, one thing will not change: the worst-case scenario is already playing out, and neither elected leaders nor corporations will pull us out of the apocalypse they themselves created. As the saying goes in land defense movements: “If Bolsonaro wins, they kill us; if Lula wins, they let us die.”

Whether we vote or not, we must become ungovernable. We must act as if the life of the planet depends on it—because it truly does.

To clarify language and references that may be unfamiliar to a US audience we have added reference notes at the end. The original statement, titled “Statement on the Current Class Struggle Scenario in Brazil,” can be found here and in Spanish translation here. We also recommend an interview with Brazilian anarchist Hugo Souza on the situation. Black Rose/Rosa Negra – NYC hosted an event with speakers from Brazil on Saturday, October 20, and you can watch a Facebook live recording of the event here.
By Coordenação Anarquista Brasileira (Brazilian Anarchist Coordination)
The current Brazilian political scenario requires a lot of lucidity and coolness for all popular organizers and their analysis of reality. We of Coordenação Anarquista Brasileira (Brazilian Anarchist Coordination), modestly, seek to give our contribution to the understanding of the convulsing social and political situation, which is defined by the legal-parliamentary coup that deposed Worker’s Party (PT) President Dilma Rousseff from office. We recently experienced the breakdown of the so-called New Republic agreement from 1988. [1] This pact maintained social exclusion of those at the bottom, at the same time it guaranteed minimum legal rights, in a coalition involving bourgeois politicians, corporations, the armed forces and part of the reformist sectors of the Left.

The construction of the Brazilian State, however, has always been closer to the interests of the imperialist shift powers than to its own population. The State has always criminalized the poor as a norm of institutionalized bourgeois democracy. The PT led governments since Lula have increased the criminal machine of public order operated by the entire legislative and judicial apparatus, reproducing the super-incarceration of the poor and Black population, as well as sustaining a repressive apparatus that attacks social struggles.

The so-called pact of class reconciliation was broken and the collaborationist agenda [of social compromise] was torn apart to be replaced by an agenda of financialized capitalism. These have replaced things such as social rights, relative freedoms and public services, which we should remember were historical achievements of popular movements.

The Empire Shows Its Claws

We cannot understand the current historical moment in our country isolated from the geopolitical reality of the Latin American continent. We need to calibrate our analytical tools and better locate Brazil as a peripheral nation within the world-system to understand what is at stake. The country has continued to maintain its primary industry of agro-exports and has aligned itself with the IIRSA Plan (Initiative for the Integration of South American Regional Infrastructure, now called COSIPLAN). [2] This plan sought to maximise the exploitation of our natural resources and speed up the process of supplying international markets to the benefit transnational corporations. This plan is a new offensive aligned with free-trade treaties established between United States and countries in the region. It’s an attempt to expand the neoliberal model in South America, supported by progressive and center-left governments.

The crisis of 2008 created major difficulties for the US to maintain their international agenda, which since the fall of The Twin Towers [the WTC 9/11 attack], began to present as the main objective the guarantee of their global hegemony which is evident by numerous aggressive military interventions by the empire. It’s also evident that imperialism guides itself by the idea that “where Brazil goes, Latin America will go as well.” It’s clear our continent, Latin America, is seen as a strategic reserve of resources (political, natural, energy) for the use of US, which makes the political situation of Brazil so important to Washington.

The coup of 2016 did not only disassemble the small gains from the previous period as it made the financial and international control of the national economy stronger, by purchasing “assets.” These adjustments are required to be made by the judicial class, especially the judges themselves, which can be seen by the fact the Lava-Jato investigation [3] is aligned with imperialism, by using the strategy of lawfare. [4] It also increases the control of infrastructure, renewable energies, service, health and education by North-American and Chinese corporations. In regards to oil, 13 multinationals have already appropriated 75 % of the pre-salt [oil below the ocean surface], especially, Shell and BP, whose last auction rounds took place in October this year. From a political point of view, the action of imperialism is to disrupt any possibility of the Brazilian situation (even if it’s governed by a center-left reformist government) to represent any threat to its interests at continental level. It is important to clarify that the outcome of the current electoral race will significantly impact the crises of Venezuelan regime, possibly contributing to political destabilization, or even the possibility of military intervention.

The New National Security Doctrine: Politics and Threats of the Military

It must be pointed out that some years ago, while under Lula’s Workers Party government, a new National Security Doctrine was inaugurated with General Etchegoyen of the Brazilian armed forces [appointed as Secretary of Security by Temer]. This doctrine sees groups linked to drug trafficking, human rights or environmental NGOs, “ideological” government agencies, and social movements linked to a left vision as being new internal enemies. Other elements of this doctrine is the emptying of the role of university and research, a tougher stance of the penal code, continuity and expansion of mass incarceration, and adoption of counter-espionage measures. The doctrine uses means of social communication control, the spread of rumors, discrediting of accusers and the use of false documents. The promotion of strikes, road closures, occupation of lands and buildings and the struggle for social rights for political minorities are characterised as “terrorist actions.”

It was this new doctrine responsible for the anti-terrorism bill approved by Dilma. Its goal was to create a new pact, a “new democracy,” where the military play an active role in the geopolitics of the continent and national politics.

To summarize: The “Democratic State of Law” [5] is mounted on top of a state of exception for the “dangerous classes ” is now in the process of reconfiguration in the power plays of the dominant classes (in some places, the narco-state), and makes it emergence from reasons interior to the state and its relations with the interests of imperialism. Under these circumstances, reaction factors operate as a police State. An adjustment that cuts so deep into the flesh of the people and deeply increased the ambitions of the capitalist class and its lackeys, sooner or later, calls security in their favor and extends the space of the exception to redefine the normality of the system.

The Center-Left Bets All Their Chips At the Polls

The Brazilian left and center-left bet their luck at the ballot box expecting bourgeois democracy to come to their rescue, protect their rights, and limit the strangle and defeat of imperialism. While the system lifts the gun sight and wears the toga or the uniform to exercise power, it is always with support from the US government. The opposition movements on the left which emerged after the legal-parliamentary coup, and which took the streets, now unfortunately enters into this pragmatic logic of the state and government, where the enemy of the far right-wing would be supposedly won by the ballot box and vote.

The center-left strives to channel these efforts into electoral build-up by spending all its energy with the institutional dispute and the rotten game of electoral parties, to the detriment of class struggle. The Brazilian political scene is tainted by the fraud of a representation which for the bourgeois liberals has always been a mechanism of usurpation of collective forces and common goods by the powerful will of minorities. But we know that the system twists the constitution and melts the rule of law when it comes to defending the interests of its dominant classes.

We must build a long-term work that points out the unions and popular organizations as the most correct alternative for the people to defend their rights and participate in political life and by deepening direct democracy, repudiating the reconciliation of classes, and giving combat without truce to proto-fascism.

Proto-Fascism as a Super-Dose of the Elite Program

Such configuration of political power is also supported by propaganda tactics and direct action from reactionary sectors and ideologically affiliated groups on the far right which are generally backed by law enforcement. A factor that gains incidence in the streets and that everything suggests that it will grow, making space for its agents to repress the national political scene and align it with what is happening at continental level.

But there is more. Coming together with this is economic frustration, the failure of political solutions through representation, and the destabilization of values associated with positions of power in family, culture, and education. We also see a conservative subjective production which uses religious evangelicals as a popular base for distribution. This new right transitioned from anti-PT rhetoric to a radicalized anti-political and anti-system rhetoric, setting itself up as a right that does not speak only to the elites, but also to the popular and peripheral sectors. They act in the social vacuum left by the center-left, which puts itself only in defense of bourgeois democracy.

The despicable figure of Bolsonaro is part of this attempt to deepen the destruction of social rights and the patriarchal violence against women, LGBT, indigenous, Blacks and maroons. Violence that materialized in several attacks throughout the country lead by Bolsonaro supporters, among which one that resulted in the brutal murder of Capoeira Master Moa of Katendê in Salvador. [6] Far from minimizing the barbarity that Bolsonaro represents, it is necessary to place him within the logic of the application of the adjustment [neoliberalism], of the imperialist recolonialization of the country at a faster pace than it would be under a center-left government.

The Polls Do Not Beat Imperialism, Tax Adjustment and Proto-Fascism!

The result of the elections therefore does not solve the complex context posed by the correlation of forces opposed to the working class. All scenarios only serve to deepen the class struggle and against oppression. The “useful vote” against the Bolsonaro sheet makes at most an extension, leading to a “third shift” that will not be decided at the polls. The struggle is long-term to build a class and mass alternative that does not surrender to the reasons of state, governability and agreements subordinate to the empire. But it must also be a social force capable of defeating the bourgeoisie, imperialism and its attacks.

Our class flags need to be lifted up at this time of proto-FASCIST AND NEOLIBERAL ATTACK. We must not succumb to the panic and fear caused by the reactionary elites. Our role is to actively resist, strengthen class solidarity, ensure the fight in the streets, and the permanent mobilization of from below!

Therefore, We Defend:

Unity of anti-fascism beyond the polls, at the base level and on the streets – struggle is what will define it. The unity will take place in action and mobilizations against the neoliberal attacks and the barbarity promoted by Bolsonaro and his supporters.

Fight for social rights. Fight against privatization and attacks on the bottom. Fight against attacks on education, welfare reform, fight against rising cost of living, criminalization of social movements and the process of genocide of the Black, peripheral and indigenous people.

Building of a general strike against the advancement of fascism and the attacks on the rights of the workers which is the agenda of imperialism of the next period and of the business elites and independent policies of the elections.

The Strength of the People Can Stop Fascism!
Against the Neoliberal Barbarism, Struggle and Organize!

Notes

1988 is the year Brazil’s constitution was approved after the end of the military dictatorship which began in 1964 and lasted over 20 years.

The Initiative for the Integration of South American Regional Infrastructure (IISAR), now called COSIPLAN, regional development and integration plan to create regional infrastructure such as major highways often facilitate the growth of extractive industries. The effort is similar to Plan Pueblo-Panama in Mexico and Central America.

The Lava-Jato or “Car Wash” scandal was an investigation into political corruption involving numerous high profile politicians.

Lawfare, a term combining law and warfare, the use of law for warfare.

“Democratic State of Law” in Brazil is similar to the US concept of “the rule of law” – a condition whereby laws and rights are respected by individuals and the government.

Master Moa was Black capoeira instructor who was stabbed to death by a supporter of Bolsonaro after he participated in a public forum and supported the PT candidate.

The people of Brasil finaly took the decisions to participate in the global protests AGAINST CAPITALISM AND GOVERNMENTS when the police used so much violence and really abused brutaly kids in the streets…

What happened in 13th in Rio was massive! We reached 10000 people in the streets and all the media was there, the journalists freaked out completely, this was totaly unexpected and it was great…

All these people revolting for all these hundreds of reasons!

We stayed until the end….and the weird thing is that after the first tear gas bomb, the hole crowd disapeared, everyone completely panic, even though it was a lot more safe then the Greek marches we have been, a lot less police, and total chaos…

We was wondering here with Void Network / Brasil about references for strategy….videos are easier for us to learn, we need it big time, we are growing big here, is amazing, and we will be present more and more, already meeting people doing staff around the corner….more and more people interested in creating…could you give us some practical references of what to do now that is becoming bigger and bigger and how we can fight back the tear gas?

Hope so, is trully beautifull all this chaos and the people waking up so big.

Lot’s of love!!

When We Fight we are Fighting for Our Lives!

We Won’t Live Like Slaves

People wrote “Brasil” in the entrance of the Tiradentes Palace — Rio de Janeiro’s Legislative Assembly (ALERJ) building here after we told them about the impact of it when in Athens people wrote “RESIST” in the poles of the Academia building… People here are very open and ready to do amazing new things for first time in their lives!.

This is how it started the march of the 13th of June 2013:
We heard all over the place that the police was been really violent to the students in the streets. We heard that it was a huge intervention of the police in the university campus and they were very brutal and arrested the students. Then we could feel the danger of the repression and decided to go and have a close look to what really was going on, took our cameras and went.
Arriving at the meeting point, the atmosphere was vibrant, young beautifull kids all around the place…there was maybe two dozens police officers for a crowd of what was told to be 10000 people .
6pm, the concentration was just about to start marching..
Looking back, behind the crowd, the scene was one of the most touching things of that night ; a group of students coming from school, they were 16 years old kids, a bunch of maybe 30 of them marching and shouting together for Freedom and Brazil, it was an incredible feeling… then the march started, people were so powerfully engaged, all together screaming to the rest of Brazil to come together to the streets such a young crowd, stunning. We marched together around the block, in the designed “allowed” area and everything was nice and lovely, there was no police nowhere…
After returning to the initial meeting point of the march, the people decided to take over the main road of the center of town. That’s when the police sent the first tear gas, and total panic happened, and all those people went nuts, and ran away…The whole crowd after that became maybe a bunch of 50 people, slowly building up again, but after an hour there watching the police dealing with the people (tiny “string” of maybe 7 people holding arms together, and another little bunch here and there in the corners) the police started gathering too big, so we decided walk away to other possible meeting points. In our walk in the streets, we meet more youngsters, we were intimidated and provoked quiet a few times by different police cars and motor bikes. On the way back home police threatened us many times in body expression and faces, but as we was a small group of people we did not reacted back so they letted us alone at that night. …
In the bus back home we met a new bunch of people from where I leave really young and motivated.

We were chanting things like ” The People Woke up” and ” Reality is Hard”, “Globo Supported the Dictatorship” (“Globo” is our main tv channel, a massive empire that is now falling as well…), and our favourite is ” Come, Come,Come to The Streets Come” and “Against the Raisings”…

The next days the protests were really confrontational, police was throwing tear gas even inside the tube stations before people get to the meeting points…

So we went to the last big manifestation ( last monday) 17/03, with masks and vinegar for the tear gas, a loud instrument for music bang bang and first aid kit to help people survive and fight back…In the way already thousands of people were going to the manifestation with us, young students one more time.
This time we were massive, we were a never ending crowd of people, people in the offices of the city throwing strings of paper from the offices windows, making a rain of white paper above the crowd that was delighted with the office people flashing the lights inside the rooms participating with us. Everyone Woke up, everyone Realised, everyone said: Fuck you! That’s Enough!
So many people, so much power, but at this time, when they thrown tear gas, the people were screaming out loud ” Do not run!” “Keep calm!” so we stayed together for many more hours, banging things, making noise, being loud…lot’s of people stealing from small shops, and a few cars went burned.
The movement wants to take over the the Tiradentes Palace — Rio de Janeiro’s Legislative Assembly (ALERJ) building where there was some police inside. They were throwing stones and bombs in the doors of the building, and at some point, the police handed a white flag from inside one of the windows… the crowd went hysterical, but the worse is about to come, when we were all celebrating our achievement, from the same window plastic bullets were shot on the back of the kids…. in our backs after hanging white flag…Everybody went realy crazy!

And for a moment we spoke as one, we shout slow and calmly as ONE voice out loud “WE ARE ASKING FOR THE POLICE TO LEAVE THE BUILDING” it happened in a very organic way, and we spoke as one, and under that power dear friends, UNITY was born, and we could feel in our cells the bond we have to each other, and the power we can have TOGETHER.

People were hurt from the bullets and the crowd diminished, fire fighter trucks started driving thru the crowd to pic up the police from the building… After that there was a proper war that has been established there, the situation went nuts, friends are hurt, and the agenda of the police is really scary.

After some hours we decided to leave home before things went too nuts… it was all looking too strange… so we decided to walk away. We were about 6 blocks away from the protest when we saw a whole bunch of special police entering the ally way with their weapons on hand… they shot our direction a couple of times… we walked another 10 blocks away to the bus stop, and a police car went after us, and thrown a tear gas just by the bus stop… the young people freaked out of course.

We went back home happy and whole and safe, and many were saying “Today was the best day of my life”. That was a day for history.
And we will be there again, and again, and again, and we will not stop.

Three people got shot from real weapons (not allowed here for the protests), one is in life danger.

People saw the tear gas was thrown on us was outdated, witch means even more chemical reactions from people.
But we are gonna stand there until the end.
Much love, and we will try do more analysis when we can.
Hope this text helps somehow, this is all we can remember
