In contrast, labour conflicts, including strikes and lock-outs, carry such gravity that the International Labour Organization tracks these on a systematic basis. As more communities are refusing to allow the destruction and contamination of their land, water, soil and air, these, in turn, deserve to be counted.

The Environmental Justice Atlas (EJAtlas), an inventory of social conflicts around environmental issues, fills that gap. It is funded by two successive European research projects, through a collective effort of scientists and activists. It records the failures and successes of the worldwide movement for environmental justice.

The project is directed and coordinated by Leah Temper, Daniela Del Bene and Joan Martínez-Alier at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. It has collected and categorised about 2500 ecological distribution conflicts. These focus on who gains and who loses in development processes, arguing that these movements play a fundamental role in redefining and promoting sustainability.

In honour of World Environment Day, on June 5th, some of the highlights of the most pertinent findings, stemming from the ten most critical categories of environmental distribution conflicts facing the world today are shown. These are listed in order of most-catalogued cases in the EJAtlas. But due to the nature of the project, this is not indicative of its global significance.

The top ten environmental conflicts

Land grabbing – 600+ conflicts.

Booming palm oil production is behind a land-grabbing surge for plantations, which threatens communities. Palm oil is now in half of all packaged products sold in the supermarket. These plantations replace food crops, deprive farmers from their land, increase slave labour, cause environmental destruction like deforestation, water pollution, infertile soil and fires. Grassroots activist networks achieved temporary suspensions of further expansion of what they call green deserts in Honduras, Colombia, México, Indonesia and Myanmar.

Renewable energy conflict – 31 wind; 326 water infrastructure conflicts

Renewables are necessary in a post-carbon world, but mega dams like Narmada in India and mega wind projects in Mexico, Kenya, India are triggering conflicts.

Methane emissions and cost overruns are hidden behind a twisted sustainability discourse to justify a new wave of dams, especially in the Himalayas, Amazon basin, Balkans and Africa. In response, some rural communities are creating cooperative wind energy models as alternatives to the corporate schemes. These in turn reshape global production and consumption patterns. Also, communities expose the injustice of large-scale dam projects and redefine their own energy transformations.

Mega-mining – 270 conflicts

New technologies, highly polluting chemicals and massive amounts of water accompany mega-mining expansion in Latin America and Western Africa. Examples of this is seen in bauxite or iron in Guinea, gold in Burkina Faso, Senegal and Ghana). Resistance in Latin America and Africa is strong. Often, there is high participation and leadership of women. Affected communities are developing new local initiatives that are more sustainable.

Unburnable fuels – 178 conflicts

The fossil fuel industry, faced with declining stocks, depends on unconventional means and locations of extraction. These extend to oil sand drilling and fracking to Arctic drilling and deep water petroleum sources. It has caused contamination of fresh water supplies, devastation of marine systems, seismic activity and global warming.

This gave rise to a Blockadia movement of direct action. Blockadia connects the various struggles to highlight the global and local threats posed by oil, coal and gas extraction. Massive oppositions have resulted in moratoria on off-shore drilling, litigation over continued oil exploration, bans on fracking, the removal of gas pipelines, and the halting of oil and gas operations.

Trash economy – 126 conflicts

Alliances of grassroots organisations are protecting the health and livelihoods of those living near waste sites by facing down a multi-billion dollar waste industry. GAIA, the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives unites communities resisting incinerators. The Basel Action Network tries to halt the flow of hazardous waste like e-waste from being shipped from high-consumption countries to the Global South. The Global Alliance of Waste Pickers defends the informal recycling sector in more than 28 countries. In Delhi, middle class residents and informal recyclers joined together to oppose the privatisation of waste management and the resulting introduction of incineration.

Sand mafias – 82 conflicts

Illegal sand mining has ten times more economic value than all wildlife crime. The causes of the surge in demand for sand are attributed to a number of reasons. They range from booming building industry to land expansion to mining of ilmenite or zircon at beaches.

India is a particular hotbed of sand mining conflicts, from beach sand mining in the South to riverbed sand mining in the Himalayas. Hundreds have been killed by various branches of the sand mafia, including activists and investigative journalists.

Fighting for fish – 77 conflicts

The industrialisation of fishing since the 1950s is causing stock collapses and extinctions. Small-scale fishing communities are reclaiming their rights for access to and control over aquatic commons. The World Forum of Fisher People and World Forum of Fish Harvesters and Fish Workers aim to stop fisheries injustices. Some examples are the ones by intensive fish farms in Turkey or in Chile, big port projects in India and polluting industries in Ecuador.

China rising up – 76 conflicts

Despite government restrictions, China is swept by large-scale protests against the highly flammable petrochemical Paraxylene, used to make plastic and polyester. Protests in Xiamen in 2007 stopped the construction of a plant. Protests spread to Dalian, Chengdu, Shanghaiand elsewhere. Together with protests against incinerators, wastewater issues, and coal-fired power plants for example, a new type of a-political mass mobilisation has emerged.

Nuclear nightmares – 57 conflicts

Nuclear power is criticised because of risks illustrated by accidents in Three Mile Island (1979), Chernobyl (1986) and Fukushima (2011). Particularly controversial were the more risky fast breeder reactors in Creys-Malville in France, where an activist lost his life. In Kalkar, Germany and Monju, Japan there were also serious risks. These were stopped but struggles at other places, such as Kalpakkam in India are ongoing. Accidents and grassroots movements have succeeded in slowing down the nuclear industry, leading to phase outs in many countries.

Pesticide popularity – 23 conflicts

Despite the impact of pesticides on the environment and human health where it can cause cancer and kill birds, its use in farming is increasing – especially in developing countries. Sadly, it’s usually only when the impact of these toxins have become irreversible that people demand justice for the related health challenges.

In Argentina the use of glyphosate in soybean cultivation is being disputed. In Asia, Latin America and Africa, the use of a nematicide to kill worms threatening banana plantations is being fought. These remain uphill battles.

The environmental justice movement

The case studies and database provided by the EJAtlas support the legitimacy and provide evidence to support the environmental justice movement.

The EJAtlas shows that people all over the world, organised in groups and networks, struggle for the kind of world they want to create, and in doing so, are promoting sustainability. Environmental conflicts are not disruptions to smooth governance, fixable with market solutions and technology. People are expressing grievances, aspirations and political demands. They should not be repressed; they should lead us to a better world for all.

THIS IS HELL – HAMBURG 6-9 JULY 2017 against G20

The residents of Hamburg woke up this morning to the news that a large number of Porsches had been burned in the outskirts last night, giving an indication of the ungovernable energy with which Hamburg would resist this intrusion. Despite the police controlling busses and trains full of activists at the border, they simply could not stop the crowds that gathered in the city center for the Welcome to Hell demonstration. The crowds they had to fear were not a few radical activists listed in the files of the secret police, but the population of Hamburg itself, which came together in opposition to the militarized policing that the G20 forced on the city.

The German police had brought together approximately 20,000 officers, including troops from other EU countries, with the intention of utterly quashing resistance. They brutally raided the camp that activists set up to accommodate protesters, then attacked people who gathered to enjoy themselves in the streets on July 4 and 5. They did everything they could to spread fear, in hopes of intimidating people out of showing up to the demonstrations to express their feelings about capitalism and the state.

It didn’t work. The Welcome to Hell demonstration attracted multigenerational crowds prepared to participate in blocs, black and otherwise. Thousands of people came together with joy, courage, and determination. In response, the police attacked a permitted demonstration without any justification—creating panic, severely injuring many people, and making more than 50 arrests in the first wave of repressive violence.
Yet this only served to foment more outrage against the authorities, which spread all around the city in the form of burning cars, barricades, and multiple simultaneous clashes and demonstrations of thousands. The strategy of terrorizing and kettling people with tremendous numbers of officers using brand-new militarized police equipment and brutal force simply failed. There were too many people on the streets and the police lost control. They report that 76 officers were injuredin Hamburg tonight.

There was a lot at stake today. The German state and the world leaders wanted to show that they are in control, that their reign is popular—or, failing that, that they can successfully dominate the population. They wanted the world to see that they can freely harass, intimidate, and oppress people without consequences. They wanted to flaunt their power by bringing the G20 to a center of resistance. Instead, they demonstrated their weakness.

Tonight, with the help of courageous people from around the world, Hamburg stood up and said Enough. We are humbled and inspired. We will continue tomorrow.

ΚΑΛΩΣ ΗΡΘΑΤΕ ΣΤΗΝ ΚΟΛΑΣΗ Αμβούργο 6-9 Ιουλίου 2017  Eνάντια στους G20

Οι κάτοικοι του Αμβούργου ξύπνησαν σήμερα το πρωί ακούγοντας στις ειδήσεις ότι ένας μεγάλος αριθμός Porsche είχε καεί στα περίχωρα της πόλης τους χθες το βράδυ, δίνοντας μια ένδειξη για την ανεξέλεγκτη ενέργεια με την οποία το Αμβούργο θα αντισταθεί στην εισβολή των G20. Παρά την απόφαση της αστυνομίας να ελέγχει λεωφορεία και τρένα γεμάτα ακτιβιστές στα σύνορα, απλά δεν μπορούσαν να σταματήσουν τα πλήθη που συγκεντρώθηκαν στο κέντρο της πόλης για την διαδήλωση «Καλώς Ήρθατε στην Κόλαση. Τα πλήθη που φοβόντουσαν δεν ήταν απλά μερικοί ριζοσπάστες ακτιβιστές που απαριθμούνται στους φακέλους της μυστικής αστυνομίας, αλλά ο πληθυσμός του ίδιου του Αμβούργου, ο οποίος συναντήθηκε σε αντιπαράθεση με την στρατιωτική βία της αστυνομίας που εξαπέλυσαν οι G20 στην πόλη.

Η γερμανική αστυνομία είχε συγκεντρώσει περίπου 20.000 αξιωματικούς, συμπεριλαμβανομένων μονάδων από άλλες χώρες της ΕΕ, με σκοπό την πλήρη εξάλειψη της αντίστασης. Εκκένωσαν βίαια τον καταυλισμό που οι ακτιβιστές έστησαν για να φιλοξενήσουν διαδηλωτές και έπειτα επιτέθηκαν σε ανθρώπους που συγκεντρώθηκαν για να απολαύσουν τους δρόμους στις 4 και 5 Ιουλίου. Έκαναν ό, τι μπορούσαν για να εξαπλώσουν τον τρόμο, ελπίζοντας να εκφοβίσουν τους ανθρώπους ώστε να μην εμφανιστούν στους δρόμους και να μην συμμετάσχουν στις διαδηλώσεις. Τις διαδηλώσεις που οργανώθηκαν για να εκφράσουμε όλοι μας τα συναισθήματά μας ενάντια στον καπιταλισμό και το κράτος.

Ο εκφοβισμός δεν λειτούργησε. Η διαδήλωση «Καλώς Ήρθατε  στην Κόλαση» προσέλκυσε μεγάλα πλήθη πολλών διαφορετικών γενεών προετοιμασμένα να συμμετάσχουν σε μπλοκ, μαύρα ή και αλλιώς. Χιλιάδες άνθρωποι συναντήθηκαν με χαρά, θάρρος και αποφασιστικότητα. Απαντώντας, η αστυνομία επιτέθηκε σε μια αδειοδοτημένη διαδήλωση χωρίς δικαιολογίες για να δημιουργήσει πανικό, τραυματίζοντας σοβαρά πολλούς ανθρώπους και κάνοντας πάνω από 50 συλλήψεις στο πρώτο κύμα καταπιεστικής βίας.

Ωστόσο, το γεγονός αυτό απλώς προκάλεσε περισσότερη οργή εναντίον των αρχών. Οι ταραχές εξαπλώθηκαν σε όλη την πόλη με τη μορφή καύσης αυτοκινήτων, ξηλώματος οδοστρωμάτων και πολλαπλών ταυτόχρονων συγκρούσεων και διαδηλώσεων χιλιάδων ανθρώπων. Η στρατηγική της τρομοκράτησης των ανθρώπων από την αστυνοία με στην χρήση τεράστιου αριθμού αξιωματικών που χρησιμοποιούν ολοκαίνουργιο στρατιωτικό εξοπλισμό και η βίαιη επίθεση της αστυνομίας απλά απέτυχε. Υπήρχαν πάρα πολλοί άνθρωποι στους δρόμους και η αστυνομία έχασε τον έλεγχο. Αναφέρουν ότι 76 αστυνομικοί τραυματίστηκαν στο Αμβούργο απόψε.

Υπήρξαν πολλά που διακυβεύονται σήμερα. Το γερμανικό κράτος και οι ηγέτες του κόσμου ήθελαν να δείξουν ότι έχουν τον έλεγχο, ότι η βασιλεία τους είναι δημοφιλής – ή, αν όχι, ότι μπορούν να κυριαρχήσουν με επιτυχία στον πληθυσμό. Ήθελαν να δείξουν στον κόσμο ότι μπορούν ελεύθερα να παρενοχλούν, να εκφοβίζουν και να καταπιέζουν τους ανθρώπους χωρίς συνέπειες. Ήθελαν να καμαρώνουν την εξουσία τους φέρνοντας το G20 σε κέντρο μιας πόλης αντίστασης. Αντ ‘αυτού, απέδειξαν την αδυναμία τους.

Απόψε, με τη βοήθεια θαρραλέων ανθρώπων από όλο τον κόσμο, το Αμβούργο ξεσηκώθηκε και είπε ΑΡΚΕΤΑ. Είμαστε ταπεινοί και εμπνευσμένοι. Θα συνεχίσουμε ξανά από αύριο.

για τις Ελεύθερες Αυτοδιοικούμενες γειτονιές της εξεγερμένης Κωσταντινούπολης

Πριν λίγο καιρό έφτασε στα χέρια μας αυτή η επιστολή-πρόταση από μία Ελληνίδα που ζει στην Τουρκία, την Όλγα.

“Θέλω καταρχήν να σας μιλήσω πολύ σύντομα, για τις αυτοδιοικούμενες, ελεύθερες γειτονιές στη Κωνσταντινούπολη.
Δεν ήξερα πως υπάρχει κάτι τέτοιο, παρά το ότι μένω στην Τουρκία 3 χρόνια. Σπουδάζω αρχιτεκτονική, κανένας φίλος μου, ή συμφοιτητής μου δεν το ήξερε, παρά το ότι έψαχνα συνεχώς. Αυτό το καλοκαίρι πήρε το μάτι μου μια ανακοίνωση για ένα διαγωνισμό  αρχιτεκτονικής. 
Στο μπάννερ είχανε μια φράση του Ανρί Λεφεμπρ, “Το δικαίωμα στην πόλη και την αστική πολιτική”. 
Παρακάτω η επεξήγηση έγραφε: “Στόχος μας είναι να γιατρέψουμε τις πόλεις μας μαζί με τους κατοίκους. Απαραίτητη προϋπόθεση: συμμετοχή σε ξενάγηση στην γειτονιά. Σημείωση: Δεν υπάρχει χρηματικό έπαθλο. Δεν είναι διαγωνισμός, είναι συνεργασία. Διοργανωτές: Συμβούλιο του Λαού, Συμβούλιο Αρχιτεκτόνων. Αρχιτέκτονες και Πολιτικοί Μηχανικοί για το λαό.” 
Μου τράβηξε αμέσως την προσοχή, κυρίως λόγο του ότι είχα πρόσφατα αρχίσει να διαβάζω για τις πολιτικές της κυβέρνησης, στα θέματα αγοραπωλησίας γη και ιστορικά τον τροπο με τον οποίο η Κωσταντινούπολη έγινε μια χαοτική Μητρόπολη με μηδαμινό σεβασμό στην ανθρώπινη ζωή.
Χωρίς να μπω σε πολλές λεπτομέρειες, γιατί θεωρώ πώς είναι πιο ωραίο τέτοια θέματα να συζητούνται με άμεση ανθρώπινη επαφή, όταν πήγα στη γειτονιά αυτό που μου τράβηξε την προσοχή ήταν πάνω απ’όλα η καλοσύνη των ανθρώπων. 
Πήγα με ελάχιστα χρήματα, και όσες μέρες ήμουν εκεί, δεν με αφήσανε νηστική, και συνεχώς προσπαθούσανε να περάσουν χρόνο μαζί μου. Πρόσεξα πώς διψούσαν να μοιραστούν τη ζωή, τις εμπειρίες και τις ιστορίες τους. Πραγματικά ενώ βρίσκονται στο κέντρο της Μητρόπολης, ζούνε αποκομμένα (προφανώς την κυβέρνηση δεν τη συμφέρει να δει ο κόσμος τον τρόπο ζωής τους). Επίσης ζούνε σε καταστάσεις πραγματικής φτώχειας, αλλά οι ζωές τους είναι τόσο πλούσιες, που πραγματικά μου πήρε πάρα πολύ καιρό να το προσέξω. 
Πέραν των συναισθηματικών, οι άνθρωποι αυτοί έχουν εγκαταστήσει ανεμογεννήτριες, έχουν δημόσιο λαχανόκηπο (του λαού), δημόσιο ψιλικατζίδικο, χρησιμοποιούν συχνά ανταλλακτική οικονομία και το βασικότερο απαγορεύεται ενοικίαση κατοικιών.

Θα πρέπει σε αυτό το σημείο να εξηγήσω δύο πράγματα. Κατ’ αρχήν, η κυβέρνηση ακόμη προσπαθεί να μπει σε αυτή τη γειτονιά, λόγω της μεγάλης αξίας που έχει η γη. Ο αγώνας τους δεν τελείωσε. Στον αγώνα τους έχουν την υποστήριξη μελών του Μαρξιστικού-Λενινιστικού Επανασταστικού κόμματος DHKP-C και της Αναρχικής οργάνωσης DAF, αλλά το βασικότερο πιστεύω είναι η αλληλεγγύη από κατοίκους άλλων περιοχών ανεξαρτήτως πολιτικής πεποίθησης.
Ίσως ακούσατε γι’αυτή τη γειτονιά όταν η Dilek Dogan δολοφονήθηκε, ή όταν σκοτώσανε τον Χασαν Φερίτ Γκετίκ, ή ίσως επειδή και ο Μπερκίν Ελβάν ήταν παιδί αυτής της γειτονιάς. Η ίσως το ακούτε πρώτη φορά τώρα. Mε αφορμή μια συζήτηση που είχα με τους διοργανωτές του διαγωνισμού κατάλαβα ότι όλος ο κόσμος ξέρει την Κριστιάνια, η Ευρώπη σίγουρα έχει ακούσει για τα Εξάρχεια όμως στην Τουρκία, προσπαθούν να σβήσουν την ύπαρξη μιας τέτοιας γειτονιάς. Ο διαγωνισμός σίγουρα βοήθησε στο να ακουστεί κάπως στην Τουρκία. Γιατί όμως να σταματήσουμε εκεί; Η Ελλάδα, που τόσο βάρβαρα “διατάχθηκε” να μισεί τους Τούρκους, οι άνθρωποι που θα μπορούσανε να είναι τόσο κοντά μεταξύ τους, πρέπει να μάθουν. Να μάθουν και να παραδειγματιστούν. 
Δεν θα περιμένουμε από καμία κυβέρνηση να μας σώσει. Θέλουμε πρώτα, να μας γνωρίσετε και να σας γνωρίσουμε. Θέλουμε να μοιραστούμε μαζί σας την εργασία μας, αλλά θέλουμε να μάθουμε κι από εσάς.”

Αμέσως μετά την ανάγνωση αυτής της επιστολής η ανοιχτή συνέλευση του Ελέυθερου Αυτοδιαχειριζόμενου Θεατρου ΕΜΠΡΟΣ αποφάσισε να γίνει μία ανοιχτή συζήτηση και η επικοινωνία μας με την Όλγα συνεχίστηκε για τον προγραμματισμό της.

Μετά από λίγες μέρες πήραμε το εξής μήνυμα :

“Στις 24 Ιανουαρίου 2016, θα γινότανε στο θέατρο Εμπρός μια ενημέρωση για τις αυτοδιοικούμενες γειτονιές της Κωσταντινούπολης, με ομιλητές από τη γειτονιά Kucuk Armutlu. Δυστυχώς, οι τελευταίοι μήνες στην Τουρκία είναι πάρα πολύ περίεργοι και επικίνδυνοι. Με ένα λακωνικό μήνυμα :”Δεν μπορούμε να έρθουμε, ζητάμε συγνώμη από τη συνέλευση του Εμπρός. Μη ρωτήσεις το λόγο, θα ενημερώσουμε όταν μπορούμε”, ενημερώθηκα πώς οι καλεσμένοι μας, δεν μπορούν να έρθουν, αν και ευελπιστούμε πώς κάποια στιγμή στο μέλλον θα τα καταφέρουν.”

Παρόλα αυτά πιστεύουμε, πώς τώρα , περισσότερο από ποτέ πρεπει ο κόσμος να μάθει για τους αγώνες στην Τουρκία. Τώρα που το Τουρκικό κράτος συνεχίζει τη γενοκτονία των Κούρδων και τις απάνθρωπες διώξεις αγωνιστών.

Την Κυριακή 24 Ιανουαρίου 2016 στις 7 το απόγευμα θα γίνει μια συζήτηση στο ΕΜΠΡΟΣ μέσω skype, όπου ως Ελληνίδα που ζει στη Τουρκία η Όλγα θα προσπαθήσει να μοιραστεί μαζί μας όσα γνωρίζει και βιώνει, με την ελπίδα να σχηματιστεί ένα κοινό έδαφος για μελλοντικούς αγώνες.

Μια ομιλία-συνομιλία για τη ζωή σε αυτοδιοικούμενες γειτονιές.

The former police prison Klapperfeld in the inner-city of Frankfurt am Main was erected in 1886 and throughout its 115 years of existence was exclusively used for the repression and oppression of people.
The initiative ‘Faites votre jeu!’, which was founded as a autonomous, self-organizing cultural and political initiative, moved into the former prison at the end of April 2009, opening the building to the general public with numerous events, projects and an exhibition gallery. The ‘working group history’ is part of the initiative and it dedicates its work to a critical political approach to the prison’s past.

The night of 31 October in all western lands is celebrated 
as a night where the frontiers between the enforced reality 
and our real desires are abolished. 
This is a night against all kinds of normalities 
where the frozen social roles derive. 

The children become dangerous, 
the poor come out in the streets, 
the rich ones hide themselves terrified under their bed-covers, 
lovers express their uncontrollable sexual passions out in public.

Night of the Dead is also a night of memory 
for all those lost ones, 
all those that left their lives 
without succeeding to materialize their dreams, 
who left their plans unfinished 
and their desires unfulfilled.

Also, it is a long drunken wild late night celebration, 
an awaken night for all those living imprisoned, 
all these living dead buried in deluded needs 
and fake desires. 
This is a night of magic 
where everything we were dreaming of for a long time 
NOW we have to put into practice. 

The days of our apathy and fear are over. 
In the deep darkness you can hear a muffled howl:

  THEY HAVE THE AUTHORITY, WE HAVE THE NIGHT!

The mass revolts throughout the world show clearly that human beings begin at last to resist the order of those who command without asking us, the orders of those who think that under their thrones there are willing idiots for serving their interests, loyal subjects who bow their head to the exploitation, the oppression, the inequality and the misery they experience every day. 
We are not slaves to any government, to any ruling class, to any international organization. We are not slaves to any system of government or mode of production that turns the rich into very rich and the poor into destitute. We do not consent to the sell-out of our lives and our struggles, but above all, we do not consent to the sell-out of our dignity. Enough with the attack waged against society, enough with the blackmails in work places, enough with the illusion and the fake promises for a supposedly better quality of life, enough with those getting rich on our expense and with our consumerist fake desires.

Global capitalism killed the illusion of Representative Democracy, 
now its time for us to kill Global Capitalism!

For too long we locked ourselves to our houses doing patiently the same routes every day, forgetting the person next to us, ignoring our neighbor, forgetting that he is like us no matter where he comes from and that only with him we can change this world. Only all of us together we can change the world. Now however we are out of our houses and this took place not only in Greece. From Cairo and Tunis to London, from Istanbul and Ankara to Madrid and Lisbon, Paris and Mexico, from New York and Oakland to Bahrain and Stockholm, from Libya and Indonesia, to Chile and Venezuela, from Japan, Haiti, India and Tibet, New Guinea and Argentina, Russia and South Africa,… everywhere, in all the world, human beings who experience exploitation and oppression get out of their houses and revolt, because they realized that locked inside them there were eventually imprisoned in their small, insignificant, individual prisons. Only that the modern cages, the modern prisons do not have handrails and prison guards, but plasma TV and newscasters that inspect and impose fear and lies, cops and cctvs that inspect your every step. But the society of the oppressed has overcome these modern prison guards.

Let the journalists in Television, in the fancy magazines and in the mainstream newspapers, the puppets of the economic interests of the big businesses of mass-stupidity and all the other Mass Media of Domestication, let all of them know that their days of affluence are slowly coming to an end because their propaganda, their lies and their slander are now obvious to everyone.
As for the politicians, the corrupted servants of the capitalist market, and all the local guards of global economic interests, we have one thing to say to you: You gentlemen you are through, you are disgraced, you are sold-out. You have no effect on us anymore. Maybe you still exist for your bosses, but from what we hear you have not much use for them either.

Now it is OUR time to be! 
And we will be not as ‘peaceful, law-abiding and loyal citizens’, not as mesmerized faithful to the commands of Power, not even as ‘citizens’ for, in the usual manner of the oppressors, you misrepresented the term ‘citizen’ and you made it synonymous to apathy, submission, egoism, and individualism.
We only exist as HUMANS, as collective individuals, as members of a society who almost forgot what it means to communicate with each other. We exist as those who want to take life into their own hands and to decide themselves for their fate, away from parties and obsolete ideological organizations, away from nationalisms and fascist fanaticisms, away from every type of dogmatism and tyrannical plans that stink of death. We only exist from now on as REVOLTED people who do not need professional politicians, nor the megalomaniac and greedy businessmen who suck our blood dry in their luxurious houses. We only exist, that is, only as COMMUNITIES of free people, who want to self-governed and to administer our world in common and we know that we can do it based on three basic values:
MUTUAL AID, SELF-ORGANIZATION and ANTI-HIERARCHY

Solidarity for all people in Turkey 
and everywhere in the world fighting against the New Totalitarianism! 

WE ARE EVERYWHERE AND WE COME TO LIBERATE THIS WORLD FROM EVERY INEQUALITY, EVERY EXPLOITATION, EVERY COERCION!

Οι Μέρες της Σκλαβιάς  Μας  Είναι  Μετρημένες !

Οι μαζικές εξεγέρσεις σε όλο τον κόσμο δείχνουν ξεκάθαρα ότι οι άνθρωποι αρχίζουν επιτέλους να αντιστέκονται στις διαταγές εκείνων που αποφασίζουν και διατάζουν χωρίς να μας ρωτούν, στις διαταγές εκείνων που νομίζουν ότι κάτω από το θρόνο τους υπάρχουν πρόθυμοι ηλίθιοι για να υπηρετήσουν τα συμφέροντά τους, υπάκουοι υπήκοοι που σκύβουν το κεφάλι στην εκμετάλλευση, την καταπίεση, την ανισότητα και την μιζέρια που βιώνουν καθημερινά. Δεν είμαστε δούλοι καμιάς κυβέρνησης, κανενός κράτους, καμιάς άρχουσας τάξης, κανενός διεθνούς οργανισμού. Δεν είμαστε σκλάβοι κανενός συστήματος διακυβέρνησης ή τρόπου παραγωγής που μετατρέπει τους πλούσιους σε πάμπλουτους και τους φτωχούς σε εξαθλιωμένους. Δεν συναινούμε στο ξεπούλημα της ζωής μας και των αγώνων μας, και πάνω απ’ όλα δεν συναινούμε στο ξεπούλημα της αξιοπρέπειάς μας. Αρκετά με την επίθεση στην κοινωνία και την αφαίμαξή της, αρκετά με τους εκβιασμούς στους χώρους εργασίας, αρκετά με τις αυταπάτες και τις ψεύτικες υποσχέσεις για δήθεν καλύτερη ποιότητα ζωής, αρκετά με την «κονόμα» και τις καταναλωτικές πλαστές επιθυμίες.                                                                                                                                                                                                

Ο Παγκόσμιος Καπιταλισμός σκότωσε την αυταπάτη 
της Αντιπροσωπευτικής Δημοκρατίας, τώρα εμείς ήρθε η ώρα να σκοτώσουμε τον Παγκόσμιο Καπιταλισμό!                                                                                                                                                                                 

Κλειστήκαμε για αρκετό καιρό στα σπίτια μας κάνοντας υπομονετικά τα ίδια δρομολόγια κάθε μέρα, ξεχνώντας τον διπλανό μας, αδιαφορώντας για τον γείτονά μας, ξεχνώντας ότι και αυτός είναι σαν εμάς από όπου και αν κατάγεται και ότι μόνο μαζί του μπορούμε να αλλάξουμε αυτόν τον κόσμο. Μόνο όλοι μαζί μπορούμε να αλλάξουμε τον κόσμο. Τώρα όμως βγήκαμε από τα σπίτια μας και αυτό συνέβη όχι μόνο στην Ελλάδα. Από το Κάιρο και την Τύνιδα ως το Λονδίνο, από την Κωνσταντινούπολη και την Άγκυρα ως την Μαδρίτη, την Λισσαβώνα,  το Παρίσι και το Μεξικό, την Νέα Υόρκη και το Όκλαντ, το Μπαχρέιν και την Στοκχόλμη, την Λιβύη και την Ινδονησία, την Χιλή και την Βενεζουέλα, την Ιαπωνία, την Αϊτή, την Ινδία και το Θιβέτ, τη Νέα Γουινέα και την Αργεντινή, την Ρωσία και την Νότια Αφρική… παντού, σε όλο τον κόσμο, οι άνθρωποι που βιώνουν την εκμετάλλευση και την καταπίεση βγαίνουν από τα σπίτια τους και εξεγείρονται γιατί κατάλαβαν ότι κλεισμένοι μέσα σε αυτά είχαν τελικά φυλακιστεί στις μικρές ασήμαντες ατομικές τους φυλακές. Μόνο που τα σύγχρονα κλουβιά, οι μοντέρνες φυλακές δεν έχουν πλέον κάγκελα και δεσμοφύλακες αλλά επίπεδη τηλεόραση και παρουσιαστές ειδήσεων που επιτηρούν και επιβάλλουν το φόβο και το ψέμα, αστυνομικούς και κάμερες που επιτηρούν το κάθε σου βήμα.. 

Την πατήσανε όμως όλοι αυτοί οι μοντέρνοι δεσμοφύλακες γιατί η κοινωνία των καταπιεσμένων τους ξεπέρασε. Ας ξέρουν οι δημοσιογραφίσκοι της τηλεόρασης, των κυριλέ περιοδικών και των καθεστωτικών εφημερίδων, οι μαριονέτες των οικονομικών συμφερόντων των μεγάλων επιχειρήσεων μαζικής αποβλάκωσης και όλων των άλλων Μέσων Μαζικής Εξημέρωσης ότι οι μέρες της αφθονίας τους σιγά-σιγά τελειώνουν γιατί η προπαγάνδα, το ψέμα και η συκοφαντία τους είναι πλέον φανερές σε όλους. Όσο δε για όλους τους πολιτικούς, τους διεφθαρμένους αυλοκόλακες της καπιταλιστικής αγοράς και όλους τους τοπικούς φύλακες των παγκόσμιων οικονομικών συμφερόντων ένα έχουμε να πούμε:    Εσείς κύριοι τελειώσατε, ξεφτιλιστήκατε, ξεπουληθήκατε. Δεν υπάρχετε πλέον για εμάς. Ίσως να υπάρχετε μόνο για τα αφεντικά σας, αν και απ’ ότι μαθαίνουμε δεν υπάρχετε πλέον ούτε για αυτούς. 

Τώρα υπάρχουμε ΕΜΕΙΣ! Και υπάρχουμε όχι ως «φιλήσυχοι νομοταγείς και υπάκουοι πολίτες», όχι σαν υπνωτισμένοι πιστοί στα κελεύσματα της εξουσίας, ούτε καν τελικά ως «πολίτες» γιατί, κατά την προσφιλή συνήθεια των καταπιεστών, διαστρεβλώσατε τον όρο «πολίτης» και τον κάνατε συνώνυμο της απάθειας, της υποταγής, της εγωπάθειας και του ατομισμού. Υπάρχουμε μονάχα ως  ΑΝΘΡΩΠΟΙ,  ΣΥΛΛΟΓΙΚΑ ΑΤΟΜΑ, μέλη μιας κοινωνίας που παραλίγο να ξεχάσουμε τί σημαίνει να επικοινωνούμε μεταξύ μας. Υπάρχουμε ως αυτοί που θέλουν να πάρουν τη ζωή τους στα χέρια τους και να αποφασίζουν οι ίδιοι για τις τύχες τους μακριά από κόμματα και παρωχημένες ιδεολογικές οργανώσεις, μακριά από εθνικιστικούς ή άλλους φασιστικούς φανατισμούς, μακριά από κάθε είδους δογματισμούς και τυραννικούς σχεδιασμούς που βρωμάνε θάνατο. Υπάρχουμε πλέον μονάχα ως ΕΞΕΓΕΡΜΕΝΟΙ που δεν χρειάζονται ούτε τους επαγγελματίες πολιτικούς, ούτε τους μεγαλομανείς και άπληστους επιχειρηματίες που μας πίνουν το αίμα ξαπλωμένοι στις πολυτελείς κατοικίες τους. 
Υπάρχουμε δηλαδή μονάχα ως ΚΟΙΝΟΤΗΤΕΣ ελεύθερων ανθρώπων που θέλουμε να αυτό-κυβερνηθούμε, να διαχειριστούμε από κοινού τον κόσμο μας και ξέρουμε πως μπορούμε να το κάνουμε αυτό στηριζόμενοι  σε τρεις βασικές αξίες: 
ΑΛΛΗΛΟΒΟΗΘΕΙΑ, ΑΥΤΟΟΡΓΑΝΩΣΗ, ΑΝΤΙ-ΙΕΡΑΡΧΙΑ                                                                                                                                  

Αλληλεγγύη για Όλους όσους αγωνίζονται ενάντια στον Σύγχρονο Ολοκληρωτισμό, στην Τουρκία και όπου αλλού και αν βρίσκονται στον Κόσμο!

Calling on people of all cities of the world! Come out this weekend and reclaim your public spaces to show solidarity with #OccupyGezi and the many waves of protests in Turkey!

What began as a small occupation to protect Istanbul’s Gezi Park erupted within a matter of days into massive protests that spread like wildfire across Turkey. A key trigger was the disproportionate use of force by the police. Just as Gezi Park crystallized the struggle over an ever-shrinking public space hijacked by neoliberal authoritarianism, the pepper gas that security forces doused on Istanbul literalized the desparate need for breathing space. Hundreds of thousands of people streamed into the streets in support of the Gezi Park occupation despite a total media blackout, defying police brutality. Now we have reclaimed not only Gezi Park but also Taksim Square, the very heart of Turkey’s public sphere, where mass expressions of discontent have repeatedly been banned throughout the republic’s history. As Taksim and Gezi swell every night with thousands of people who come to celebrate their solidarity, victory and power, our resistance in other parts of Istanbul and other cities across Turkey continues. Of one thing we are certain: Nothing will ever be the same again.

Η λαϊκή συνέλευση της Πλατείας Ταξίμ μόλις εξέπεμψε το παρακάτω κάλεσμα και μεταφράστηκε αμέσως σε δεκάδες γλώσσες. Ας οργανώσουμε δράσεις για το ερχόμενο Σαββατοκύριακο.

8-9 Ιουνίου Κάλεσμα για Δράσεις Αλληλεγγύης με το #OccupyGezi
Κάλεσμα προς όλες τις πόλεις του κόσμου! Αυτό το Σαββατοκύριακο βγείτε και ανακτήστε τους δημόσιους χώρους σας για να δείξετε την αλληλεγγύη σας προς το #OccupyGezi και το κύμα διαδηλώσεων που επεκτάθηκε σε ολόκληρη την Τουρκία!
Αυτό που ξεκίνησε σαν μια μικρή κατάληψη για την προστασία του πάρκου Γκέζι της Κωνσταντινούπολης ξέσπασε μέσα σε λίγες ημέρες σε μαζικές διαδηλώσεις που επεκτάθηκαν σαν φωτιά σε ολόκληρη την Τουρκία. Ένα από τα κύρια εναύσματα ήταν η ακραία χρήση βίας από τις αστυνομικές δυνάμεις. Όπως το Πάρκο Γκέζι αποκρυστάλλωσε τον αγώνα μας για τον συνεχώς συρρικνούμενο δημόσιο χώρο ο οποίος καταλαμβάνεται από τον νεοφιλελεύθερο αυταρχισμό, έτσι και τα χημικά της αστυνομίας με τα οποία πότισαν την Κωνσταντινούπολη μετουσίωσαν σε κυριολεξία την ανάγκη για καθαρό αέρα και ζωτικό χώρο. Εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες ανθρώπων βγήκαν στους δρόμους στηρίζοντας την κατάληψη του Πάρκου Γκέζι παρά την συσκότιση που προσπάθησαν να επιβάλλουν τα ΜΜΕ.
Πλέον δεν έχουμε ανακτήσει μόνον το Πάρκο Γκέζι αλλά και την Πλατεία Ταξίμ, την καρδιά του δημόσιου χώρου της Τουρκίας, το μέρος όπου η έκφραση μαζικής δυσαρέσκειας έχει επανειλημμένως απαγορευτεί στην σύντομη ιστορία του Τουρκικού κράτους. Καθώς η Ταξίμ και το Γκέζι πλημμυρίζουν από χιλιάδες κόσμου κάθε βράδυ που έρχονται να γιορτάσουν όλοι μαζί την αλληλεγγύη, την νίκη και την δύναμή μας, η αντίστασή μας συνεχίζεται σε άλλα μέρη στην Κωνσταντινούπολη και σε ολόκληρη την Τουρκία. Ένα είναι βέβαιο: Τίποτε πλέον δεν θα είναι το ίδιο.
Δείξτε την αλληλεγγύη σας και την υποστήριξή σας το Σαββατοκύριακο 8 και 9 Ιουνίου. Ανακαταλάβετε την Ταχρίρ, το Σύνταγμα, την Σολ, το Ζουκόττι, τους δρόμους σας, τις πλατείες και τα πάρκα σας. Πιστέψτε μας, σας ανήκουν.

This short film chronicles the events of September
 25-29th in Madrid, Spain where tens of thousands 
of people have taken to the streets to demand 
the resignation of the government and an end 
to police brutality. Many of the protests ended 
in clashes with the police.
Since the stand off began on September 25th , 
the images of police brutality have travelled 
the world over, shocking and inspiring people
across Europe and leading to an international 
day of action on September 29th. 
This film tells the story of why so many 
people took to the streets and follows 
these events as they unfolded.

‘No doubt, their tactic of blockading railway lines proved to be a necessary and effective tactic of resistance to ensure that no military or state police would commit racial genocide against my people’.

‘Blockades, being scattered are very disruptive and hard to regulate. When several are in place at he same time, the effect can be striking. As one is resolved, another emerges; much as do the forest fires that flare up across the BC interior as the summer storms sweep across the mountains.’

‘We see the way capitalism operates is through the circulation of goods. Obstructing the highways is the way to hurt capitalists the most. Therefore we who have nothing, our way to make them pay the cost, and show them that we will not give up and die for their ambitions, is to create difficulties by obstructing large routes of distribution.’

‘ At times, roadblocks form part of a larger political and public relations campaign. Often the band and tribal councils sanction roadblocks. Because of their approach, or due to their relationship to the colonial governments and businesses, campaigns carried out under band councils tend to receive far less state repression’

‘… But these blockades and arrests were carefully orchestrated; the RCMP worked closely with the natives. The natives wanted to get arrested to press their point. In those cases there was never a threat of violence, like there is on the Douglas Lake Road (’95). The use of masks is significant. That’s Oka…I deplore this development. This use of masks is a symbol we don’t want in BC’.

‘the sexual division of labor was openly confronted and did not disable women’s ability to hold the barricades and occupations.’

‘…However, the Oaxaca Commune and its barricades and occupations, its street battles and long nights of assemblies, all running on the blood and sweat of women’s resistance, continues to inspire the possibility of insurrection and mass popular revolt. The state of ‘ungovernability’ which the movement claimed was meant as true freedom, and the rebellious women of the movement refused, for a time with great force, to be governed by state authority, by the domination of capitalism in its everyday manifestations, by husbands, middle class women, or by the police.’
