Ο Steven Corcoran είναι ο γραμματέας της οργάνωσης Parrhesia: School of Philosophy, Βερολίνο, ενός μη κερδοσκοπικού εκπαιδευτικού οργανισμού αφιερωμένου στη φιλοσοφία ως δημόσια πρακτική. Είναι ο εκδότης του The Badiou Dictionary και έχει επιμεληθεί/μεταφράσει πάνω από 20 φιλοσοφικά έργα, μεταξύ των οποίων, του Alain Badiou (Συνθήκες, Πολεμικές και Η ιδέα του Κομμουνισμού), του Jacques Rancière (Dissensus, Hatred of Democracy, The Edges of Fiction, What Times Are We Living In?), του Frantz Fanon (Alienation and Freedom) και τριών πρόσφατων έργων του Achille Mbembe (Necropolitics, The Earthly Community, and Brutalism). Τα τρέχοντα έργα του περιλαμβάνουν ένα βιβλίο για την ισότιμη πολιτική οργάνωση και φαντασία, και ένα ειδικό τεύχος για τη σκέψη του Jacques Rancière, την Κεντρο-Ευρωπαική Σκέψη και Θεωρία.

Fighting for Knowledge: Enacting Equality

Lecture and Open Public Dialogue with Steven Corcoran

Philosophy, politics, art, science – all are tied through the knot of education. It is no wonder that during social uprisings and radical episodes of human history, education becomes a philosophical, political and artistic question. Indeed, today’s neoliberal intensified commodification of education has only laid the ground work for the authoritarian turn of the Greek government, with its Higher Education Bill and permanent deployment of the state Police forces on university campuses. The heart of the question is of course the relationship between knowledge and authority, ignorance and competence. Plato was the first to insist that education must be by truths, as opposed to the sophistic claims to knowledge that prevailed. In the nineteenth century, revolutionary French educator Joseph Jacotot, whose exploits were brilliantly translated into our times by Jacques Rancière in his paradoxically titled book, The Ignorant Schoolmaster, overturns the Platonic order. Learning is not about the one who knows more teaching the one who knows less; it is about verifying an axiom of the equality of intelligences. Here pedagogical practice usefully informs philosophical practice. Key to both approaches is the idea that education cannot be contained within the authority of an institution. In this talk I would like to explore the philosophical tenets of these approaches and invite a discussion around novel approaches to education within the contemporary neoliberal landscape.

Steven Corcoran is the secretary of Parrhesia: School of Philosophy, Berlin, a non-profit educational organization devoted to philosophy as a public practice. He is the editor of The Badiou Dictionary and has edited/translated over 20 works of philosophy, including, among others, by Alain Badiou (Conditions, Polemics and The Idea of Communism), by Jacques Rancière (Dissensus, Hatred of Democracy, The Edges of Fiction, What Times Are We Living In?), by Frantz Fanon (Alienation and Freedom), and three recent works by Achille Mbembe (Necropolitics, The Earthly Community, and Brutalism). His current projects include a book on egalitarian political organization and imagination, and a special issue on the thought of Jacques Rancière for Continental Thought and Theory.

Το να σκεφτούμε τη δικαιοσύνη υλιστικά σημαίνει πρώτα από όλα να ξεπεράσουμε έναν κανονιστικό ιδεαλισμό, που καθιστά την έννοια μία κρίση του λόγου-δικαστή επί του κόσμου και των σωμάτων που τον συνθέτουν. Σημαίνει επίσης να σκεφτούμε τη δικαιοσύνη πέρα από τα όρια του κράτους, όχι μόνο ως πολιτική δομή αλλά μορφή σκέψης, που οριοθετεί και αξιολογεί πάνω στη βάση παγιωμένων ρόλων και ταυτοτήτων. Σημαίνει όμως επίσης να σκεφτούμε τη δικαιοσύνη πέρα από την κατηγορία «Άνθρωπος», αναζητώντας την ανάδυση της στη συναισθητική δομή της ζωικότητας, ίσως και πέρα από αυτήν, μέσα στο γίγνεσθαι του κόσμου. Ακολουθώντας αυτήν την πορεία η θεωρία ανακαλύπτει τη δικαιοσύνη ως έναν εμμενή καθορισμό των διαδικασιών δόμησης και αποδόμησης κοινωνικών μορφών ύπαρξης, οι οποίες και συνθέτουν αυτό που ονομάζουμε ανθρώπινη ιστορία.

Το Θερινό Βιβλιοστάσιο, που φέτος διοργανώνεται για 3η συνεχή χρονιά, προέκυψε από την ιδιαίτερη συνάντηση μικρών εκδοτικών εγχειρημάτων με διαφορετικές αφετηρίες αλλά συνδιαλεγόμενες διαδρομές. Στόχος μας είναι το Θερινό Βιβλιοστάσιο να γίνει και πάλι ένας τόπος συνάντησης με αφορμή τα βιβλία: τα βιβλία που απευθύνονται σε ανήσυχα πνεύματα και φλογερές ψυχές, τα βιβλία που μετουσιώνουν τη μοναχική ανάγνωση σε συλλογική πρακτική, που ασκούν κριτική στο υπάρχον, που φιλοδοξούν να δημιουργούν ρωγμές και ανοίγματα εκεί όπου υψώνονται μόνο τοίχοι.

Greece became a world news report center during the revolt of December 2008 after the assassination of 15 years old boy Alexis Grigoropoulos, by the Greek police in Exarchia square, the stronghold of anarchists and leftists in Athens for the last 40 years. The global economic crises brought Greece again in global news focus from 2010 to 2012 as the collapse of Greek economy activated a general social revolt with the participation of the majority of the population and a serial of social experimentations in self-organization, horizontal assemblies, general strikes, mutual help movements and confrontation with authorities. After the election of left party “Syriza” in the government in 2015 and the appearance of neo-nazi party Golden Dawn the social movements continue to offer alive paradigms of resistance. In our days Greece appears as the country with one of the strongest anarchist movements in the world.

Two members of Void Network [https://voidnetwork.gr], Sissy Doutsiou (actress, published poet and essayist) and Tasos Sagris, co-editor of the books “We are an Image from the Future- The Greek Revolt of Dec. 2008 (AK Press 2010) and “From Democracy to Freedom” (Crimethinc, 2018) will create a public dialogue about social movements in Greece as also about the international co-ordination of the struggles.

As English society face Brexit and European and Greek national elections come closer the talk will take the form of direct Q&A and will include analysis about democracy, far-right and left governments, investigating emancipatory possibilities in the self-organized social projects,  neighborhood assemblies, horizontal anarchist groups and federations, searching for tools and methodologies of creating and defending social centers, solidarity networks and mutual help projects, empowering the fight against the state and capitalism, make antifascist struggles, anarchofeminism and LGBTQI movements stronger, talking about the anarchist movement in Greece and the world today as also share an open invitation for international co-ordination

* George Katsiaficas, a student of Herbert Marcuse, and long-time activist, he is the author of The Imagination of the New Left: A Global Analysis of 1968. His book, The Subversion of Politics: European Autonomous Social Movements and the Decolonization of Everyday Life. Among his edited volumes are Liberation, Imagination and the Black Panther Party (with Kathleen Cleaver) and Vietnam Documents: American and Vietnamese Views of the War. George Katsiaficas is currently living in Gwangju, South Korea. A visiting professor of sociology at Chonnam National University, he is finishing research on East Asian uprisings in the 1980s and 1990s.

The movement of the Black Panthers, the successes and the failures, the limitations of the centralism and the radical contribution of the everyday life people in struggle was some of the understandings offered to us by the talk of George Katsiafikas in Athens.

We publish here photos from the event and the following queer party of the same night as also a text of comparison between the Black Panther Party Platform and Programme of 1966 and the far more radical announcements of the Revolutionary Peoples’ Constitutional Convention in 1970 proving that when people liberate themselves from the limitations of a political party and self-organize the resistance can bring much more radical and beneficial results than their own political party.

Τα «κοινά», οι συλλογικοί, φυσικοί και πολιτισμικοί πόροι που διαχειριζόμαστε από κοινού με συμμετοχικές πρακτικές, αναδεικνύονται σήμερα στην κριτική θεωρία και πράξη ως ένας από τους βασικούς κόμβους της αυτόνομης ανοικοδόμησης της ζωής. Η ενδυνάμωσή τους δεν πλουτίζει μόνο την εμπειρία της κοινωνικής αυτοκυβέρνησης μέσα από αμεσοδημοκρατικούς θεσμούς και κοινότητες σε πολιτισμικούς χώρους, στην εκπαίδευση, το διαδίκτυο, την κατανάλωση και την παραγωγή. Κτίζει εδώ και τώρα τα μικροθεμέλια της καθημερινής επιβίωσης και συμβίωσης με τους όρους των άλλων κόσμων στους οποίους προσβλέπουμε, εξασφαλίζει τις υλικές και θεσμικές προϋποθέσεις της μετάβασης προς αυτούς και διαπλάθει την άλλη εξισωτική ηθική της κοινής αυτοδιεύθυνσης.
Η αργή μεταμορφωτική δύναμη της επανάστασης η οποία μετασχηματίζει έννοιες, σχέσεις, δομές, σημαίνοντα και σημαινόμενα, δεν μπορεί να έχει άλλο στόχο παρά την δημιουργία ενός ευρύτατου ΚΟΙΝΩΝΙΚΟΥ ΜΕΤΩΠΟΥ, το οποίο θα αποτελεί την κεντρική δυναμική της επαναστατικής διαδικασίας. Από την στιγμή που η επαναστατική κουλτούρα της πανανθρώπινης απελευθέρωσης διαχυθεί ευρέως κοινωνικά θα γίνει κυρίαρχη κουλτούρα στην θέση της κουλτούρας της κυριαρχίας, ηγεμονεύουσα κοινωνική κουλτούρα ενάντια στην κουλτούρα όλων των ηγεμόνων.

Ο Αλέξανδρος Κιουπκιολής γεννήθηκε (1975) και μεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα, στην περιοχή των Εξαρχείων. Σπούδασε ελληνική φιλολογία (κλασσική κατεύθυνση) στο Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών και πολιτική θεωρία στα Πανεπιστήμια του Έσσεξ και της Οξφόρδης. Σήμερα διδάσκει σύγχρονη πολιτική και κοινωνική θεωρία στο Τμήμα Πολιτικών Επιστημών του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστήμιου. Τα ερευνητικά και πολιτικά του ενδιαφέροντα επικεντρώνονται στη νεωτερική σύλληψη της ελευθερίας, τη φιλοσοφία του δικαίου, τις θεωρίες και τα πρότυπα της δημοκρατίας, την ανάλυση και την κριτική της εξουσίας.
